“Yes. Depending on your performance and circumstances, your salary will be adjusted accordingly.”

Shuria sank into thought for a moment, then started looking around nervously, her face showing distress.

Kiara sent a puzzled look her way. Was the amount not to her liking? Was there a pre-agreed sum?

Kiara asked with the intent of relaying any issues to their lord.

“If there is a problem with the amount, then…”

“No, no! It’s not that. There is a problem, though. Um.”

Shuria looked down and fiddled with the pouch. Then, with a determined face, she exclaimed,

“I… don’t know the currency unit here…!”

5,000 Arom, what is that? How much is it worth?

Kiara slightly parted her lips. Indeed, that was a challenging issue.

Cradling her cheek in her hand, Kiara muttered as if exhaling a sigh,

“I was shortsighted. Of course you wouldn’t know the currency units of Elros since you came from Elbas.”

“Ahahaha.”

“If you have some free time, may I offer some assistance?”

“I would be very grateful!”

They moved their seats and sat side by side on a bench.

Kiara took a small pouch from her bosom. A few coins popped out.

As she lined up the coins on the bench, Kiara began,

“Roughly 500 years ago, a great empire called Arkan ruled the entire continent. Then a great war broke out, and… the continent was divided into seven countries.”

“Ah, I’ve read that in a book.”

“Miss Shuria, you are quite proactive in acquiring new knowledge.”

Kiara faintly smiled and continued,

“Though divided into seven countries, thanks to a peace agreement centered around the city-state of Rubal, the continent maintains active exchanges. Because of that, the currency used during the Arkan Empire continues to be used to this day.”

“Is the same currency used throughout the whole continent?”
Shuria, in the desert triad called Sharbia, Parsa, and Bashad, each has its own currency, but it’s not widely used. The same goes for the currency of the island nations across the sea. So, you only need to know the currency of Arkan.”

Shuria nodded her head lightly. Confirming Shuria’s reaction, Kiara continued her explanation.

“The currency unit in Arkan is of two types: Arom and Penel. Consider 100 Penels to be 1 Arom. There are five types of coins in circulation, but… I only have four types right now.”

Shuria examined the coins Kiara had arranged on the table. A tiny brown coin, two silver coins of different sizes, and a gold coin.

Kiara picked up the coins one by one and explained.

“This brown coin is worth 1 Penel. And among these silver coins, the smaller one is 10 Penels. The larger one is worth 1 Arom. The gold coin is worth 10 Aroms.”

Kiara placed the coins on Shuria’s palm so she could look at them closely. Shuria scrutinized the coins; each had a different design.

Shuria returned the coins and asked, “You said there are five types, right? What about the other one?”

“The last one is worth 100 Aroms. It’s a gold square, so it should be easy to recognize. For reference, all the coins in your salary are 10 Arom coins.”

Shuria sneakily opened her salary pouch. Stacks of gold coins piled up. Since it totaled 5000 Aroms, it should contain 500 gold coins worth 10 Aroms each.

I should take this straight to my room. Carefully closing her pouch, Shuria cautiously asked Kiara.

“So, my salary of 5000 Aroms is… Uh, how much is that, exactly?”

“Um…”

Kiara paused for a moment to think before answering.

“On average, a family of six living in the city of Velloi recently spent about 2340 Aroms per month. Would this example make it easier for you to understand?”

“Uh…”

So my monthly salary is about twice the monthly expenses of a family of six?

She felt it was a lot, but couldn’t quite grasp it.

‘I shouldn’t ask for more explanation.’

Shuria sneakily glanced at Kiara, who was looking at her watch.

As busy as Asphayren was, Kiara here was also a very busy person. Holding her back any longer would undoubtedly be a nuisance.

‘Sigh, it’s okay. I’ll naturally learn as I go shopping, anyway!’

In any case, Kiara had been of great help. Shuria gave her a broad smile, expressing her gratitude to the excellent economics teacher before her.

“I’ve understood everything. Thank you so much for the detailed and kind explanation! I’ll definitely, absolutely! repay this favor. How about we have a meal together sometime? I’ll find a nice place.”

Her crescent-moon-shaped eyes, heart-shaped big smile, and round cheeks.

Shuria’s pure, shadowless smile flew like a meteor shower and struck Kiara’s heart powerfully. Kiara slightly twisted.

‘How cute.’

So cute that… I want to do anything for her.

A strong desire ignited in Kiara’s heart.
