The Duke and Duchess of Rochester often visited Resotia, yet they still stayed at their townhouse where the roses remained as beautiful as ever. The reason was that the mansion was simply too vast for just the two of them.

And when Pola departed from Resotia, she looked at Edward and left behind the same words Mariette once had.

Once Mariette finished her regency and fully passed the imperial throne to her son, the Duke and Duchess of Rochester would probably be able to come to Resotia.

“Have you finished reading all the letters Stuart left behind?”

At Mariette’s question, Ricardo and Lienne exchanged glances. They had spent the entire next day reading Stuart’s letters, which also contained the story of what happened after Ricardo’s manifestation.

When they reached the part where it mentioned how outrageously Ricardo had behaved, and how rumors that he had abandoned the Saintess had spread wildly throughout the capital, Lienne couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Moreover, Rochester had made no official announcement regarding any engagement.

Lienne guessed that the Duke and Duchess of Rochester back then probably respected Ricardo’s wishes just as they did now—surely they had worried for their son’s future, but what mattered most to them had always been Ricardo’s happiness.

Ricardo and Lienne, as if by unspoken agreement, stopped reading the letters from the point when he departed for war.

By then, Judith would have set off on her journey wearing plain, unmarked clothes, and Lienne would have been tied to the scaffold.

Though she couldn’t go back to that time, Lienne now understood—the cold expression Ricardo had worn as he looked at her then was an expression of his despair and anguish.

Seeing him like that, all she could have wanted to ask him at that moment was just one thing:

Whether he still remembered her even now.
