Mariette rose from her seat, watching the two people whose eyes remained fixed on the book. Even as she brushed off her skirt and prepared to leave, neither Lienne nor Ricardo showed any reaction.

“Oh, but before I go—”

At the sound of her voice, as if suddenly remembering something, both of their gazes reluctantly tore away from the book and turned toward her.
