“Do you really intend to keep riding this cart-like carriage from now on?”

Ricardo folded his arms and lazily stretched out his legs. The carriage was so narrow that even a slight extension of his body made his knees bump into mine. I pressed my knees tightly together and turned slightly to the right, nodding.

“I already told you—I don’t want to draw people’s attention.”

No one within this territory failed to recognize the crest of the Duke of Rochester. If a carriage bearing that emblem paraded through the city, crowds would line up just to watch the procession. Thus, for now, this humble cart-like carriage was the only solution.

“Freddie seems to have replaced all the seats, hasn’t he?”

I rubbed the seat with my palm. The violet velvet, tickling even my fingertips, was identical to that in the Duchess’s carriage. Unlike the entirely black carriage, this color alone felt jarringly out of place.

For some reason, I laughed.

“Freddie’s being a bit excessive. But you… what are you thinking, smiling like that?”

“Hmm… Sabrina.”

“Why my sister-in-law?”

“Huh?”

“Why that expression? Should I call her sister-in-law or elder sister-in-law instead?”

I shook my head firmly at his teasing, delivered with an earnest face.

“Neither of those is an appropriate way to address your fiancée’s sister.”

Ever since he’d asked me to come along, Ricardo had acted as if we had a tomorrow—or as if we had no future at all. Yet, even as my heart sank each time, I didn’t dislike it.
