The head butler, who had just placed the late morning meal on the table, wore a face of utter shock. But the servant before him had no reason to lie.

Though still young, he had worked here since the age of fifteen—starting as the head butler’s personal page—so his reliability was unquestionable.

“No, Your Grace. I’m certain he was accompanied by a certain lady.”

“That’s impossible…”

“Yes, sir.”

“And no one has definitively seen Julian?”

“That’s correct.”
