Ricardo’s mocking laugh made my anger flare up uncontrollably. Then what exactly am I supposed to do?

Does he expect me to lock eyes with him and swear undying love? Or beg him by clinging to his trouser leg? If that’s what he wants, I won’t refuse.

But he already has a woman chosen for him by the gods themselves, and I will never pledge my love to a man who belongs to someone else. Since my feelings aren’t a sin I committed, I won’t feel guilty for harboring them.

Yet somehow, I felt that wasn’t what he truly wanted.

I might not be clutching his trouser leg, but in truth, I’m still clinging to Ricardo.

I took a deep breath and exhaled slowly in small, measured bursts.

At this point, I had no intention of hiding anything from him anymore.

Just as I was about to tell him—I’m not merely enduring you; my heart is torn to shreds from constantly freezing and shattering the greed that surges whenever I meet your eyes—please, out of pity if nothing else, shield us both safely for just a little while—the steward hurried over.

Freddie glanced at me and whispered to Ricardo,

“The Crown Princess has arrived.”

Startled, I looked at Freddie, but he had already delivered his message and quickly stepped back. Noticing my worry, Ricardo let out a soft sigh.

“Don’t fret. The Crown Prince doesn’t get along with the Emperor, so no one in the palace will learn you’re here.”

“Oh…”

Before I could ask anything further, commotion broke out around us.

Soon, a woman whose nobility was unmistakable even from afar could be seen approaching the pavilion where we stood. Jewels adorned the hem of her dress, sparkling like a shimmering sea with every step she took.
