The next morning, Freddie personally escorted me to meet my family. Unless I was an exceptionally important guest, welcoming visitors was clearly the butler’s duty—not his. The fact that he moved himself meant it was Ricardo’s order.

Even after riding in the carriage for a long while, we still hadn’t reached where my family was staying.

Only then did I understand why Ricardo had said last night that I couldn’t meet them.

The “Bluehill” he mentioned wasn’t the name of a detached wing within the duke’s manor. In fact, the area where I had wandered lost just days ago was merely a tiny fraction of the entire estate.

Bluehill was, quite literally, nestled against a verdant hill.

I flung open the half-open window wide, but couldn’t quite tell whether I was still inside the duke’s estate or traveling along some remote country road of the Empire.

I was stunned once by the sheer scale of the mansion, and stunned again when I realized the place where my family was staying bore a striking resemblance to Resotia’s house.

Hearing I had arrived, my entire family stood waiting at the door—even Countess Fennel. The moment I saw them, I leapt from the carriage before it had even come to a complete stop.

“Lienne, be careful!”

Hearing Sabrina’s voice—always scolding me for my recklessness—finally made it feel real that my whole family was truly here.

Jonathan ran toward me faster than I could sprint.

He crashed into my arms—or rather, since he was now taller than me, it was more accurate to say I was enveloped in his. I’d hoped we’d meet again someday, but never imagined it would happen not in Resotia, but in Dermayer.

Once again, our family’s fate had been utterly overturned.
