As soon as Gerald entered the estate, he was met with the devastating news that his wife was being detained in the imperial palace and that his daughter-in-law was receiving treatment at House Chaplin.

Ever since Lienne had taken the arrow meant for him and then vanished with Prince Chaplin, his emotions had become utterly indescribable.

“Just stay alive. Please, just stay alive.” Gerald repeated those words like a spell while aboard a ship sailing through a tempestuous sea.

“Welcome.”

Prince Chaplin himself came out to the main gate of the manor to greet Gerald.

“Please come inside.”

“No, before that—I’d like to hear about Lienne first.”

Walter hesitated for a moment, unable to say anything.

“I’m sorry, but Lady Rochester has not yet awakened.”

Gerald patted Walter’s shoulder, noting how much more haggard he looked compared to the last time they’d met, and felt grateful for the young man’s apology despite having done nothing wrong.

“That’s hardly something for you to apologize for. Don’t say such things.”

Despite Gerald’s reassurance, Walter shook his head and murmured his apology once more.
