I couldn’t tell whether Julian was acting so impatiently now because of something specific, or if his feelings had grown complicated due to Robert, making him act on impulse. I sank into deep thought for a moment, but all my thoughts instantly evaporated into thin air at the urgent pressure of his lips.

When I pushed my body back, gasping for breath, Julian finally gave me a brief moment to breathe.

He paused only momentarily—just as he reached for me again, gripping my chin and tilting my head—Sabrina barely managed to stretch out her hand and press it against his lips.

“St-stop.”

Even though she pleaded with breath still unsteady, he paid no heed, firmly pressing his lips against her palm.

Julian’s lips felt so hot that Sabrina started in alarm and tried to pull away, but he wouldn’t allow it.

Ever since that night when she had asked Julian to come for her in Rochester, she had anticipated—and steeled herself for—this very moment.
