“As I mentioned back then, I haven’t yet cultivated the sort of grace that would make me fret over my honor due to men’s casual jests… So please don’t concern yourself with that matter, Lord Henson.”

He nodded and placed the hand that had held his teacup onto his knee. She felt a strange familiarity in the glint of his eyes as he looked at her.

“Then I’ll speak plainly.”

“That’s exactly what I hoped for.”

“As you heard in Leaton, Julian isn’t serious about this engagement.”

Sabrina’s chest suddenly ached as if struck without warning. Though she felt as though her hidden feelings had been exposed, she bit down harder on the soft flesh inside her cheek and maintained a natural smile.

The familiar look in Robert’s eyes was identical to that of a man holding a strong hand in a card game. Apparently, he was engaged in some lowly private wager of his own.

“You surely didn’t come visiting at this late hour merely to remind me of something I might have forgotten.”

Robert hesitated briefly and couldn’t bring himself to speak right away.

Just as Sabrina’s patience began to wear thin, he suddenly burst out with an unexpected remark.

“Of course not. Lady Fennel—no, Sabrina.”

“……”

“You never even held a proper engagement ceremony, did you?”

Though his words were clearly meant to insult, Sabrina lifted her chin even higher. She told herself it was merely the ignorance of someone unaware of the circumstances.

“That sort of thing isn’t particularly important to me.”
