When she opened the door to his hospital room, Woo Yeon froze on the spot.

On her way to the hospital, she had tried hard not to misinterpret Team Leader Han’s words: “President, he’s regained consciousness.”

She’d repeatedly mulled over the doctor’s warning—that his cognitive abilities might have declined proportionally to the extended coma, or that there could be undetected damage not yet found during surgery.

She’d braced herself just to see him move a finger or blink deliberately when meeting her eyes.

Even that much would have been enough to bring her to tears of joy as she walked in.

But the moment she opened the door and saw him sitting upright in bed, completely fine and even without his breathing tube, she couldn’t utter a single word.

Her eyes met Tae Kyung’s for a fleeting instant through the cluster of medical staff. Her heart began pounding so fiercely it felt ready to burst.

Still unable to grasp the reality of it all, Woo Yeon stood rooted at the doorway.

“Everyone, please step out for a moment.”

What registered in her ears was Tae Kyung’s clear voice. He spoke politely.

He asked them all to leave.

The medical staff and Team Leader Han nodded and hurriedly left through the door. Even in that moment, Tae Kyung’s gaze remained fixed solely on Woo Yeon.

What are you doing? Why don’t you come over here? It was as if he were saying exactly that.

She gulped, the swallow stirring something deep inside her, making her feel as though her insides had been tenderly unraveled.

“Is this… not a dream?”
