Yulgyu Law Firm meeting room.

After the department meeting, for some reason, Hyunji didn’t get up from her seat, so Heewook quietly sat and waited.

The more you know about Hyunji, the more complex she becomes. In fact, Heewook knew little about Hyunji other than the information he heard around. She graduated from a prestigious university in the United States, returned to Korea, went to law school, and became a lawyer. Her father is a businessman, and she lives alone in a luxury villa in Cheongdam-dong.

Now that they were preparing for marriage, Heewook had intended to ask slowly, but his curious mother couldn’t wait. On Saturday, Hyunji visited Heewook’s house and shared information about her parents and the scale of her house.

Heewook didn’t know that Hyunji’s father was doing business in Dubai. Although Hyunji assured that she had no connection with her father’s business and wouldn’t help with it in the future, Heewook’s perspective was different. If he could impress his father-in-law, there might be expectations for the couple to contribute to the law firm with a reputable name in the future.

After all colleagues left the meeting room, when Heewook and Hyunji were alone, Heewook moved closer to her.

“What are you doing?”

He asked Hyunji, who was only looking at her phone screen without giving him a glance.

“Oppa, are you preparing for the proposal well?”

The problem was the proposal. Hyunji was in a state where she insisted on receiving a proposal. Heewook needed to come up with a proposal that fulfilled the expectations of the other party, but he couldn’t think of any ideas.

Hansoeun would have been happy with just a simple engagement ring.

For a moment, thinking of Soeun, Heewook concealed his complicated feelings and answered.

“Why ask about that? Oppa will prepare everything. You just have to have expectations.”

“Yeah. I’ll expect. And, this.”

Hyunji showed her phone screen. It was a picture of a ring from an unknown high-end brand.

“What’s this?”

“Use this for the proposal ring. Got it?”

“Oh, do you want to receive the engagement ring in advance?”

“No. The proposal ring and the engagement ring are different. It’s about having no sense.”

The ring looked incredibly expensive at first glance. Heewook’s eyes narrowed as he looked closely at the screen.

She didn’t even leave the ring, and she wanted him to present it suddenly? It was mind-boggling.

Kindly, Hyunji sent a picture of the ring to Heewook’s phone.

“I’ve always dreamed of receiving a proposal with this. You’ll grant my wish, right, Oppa?”

Heewook could now confirm more details about the ring on his phone screen.

Heewook’s eyes widened at the price of the ring.

There’s a ring worth 50 million won in the world?

It was more expensive than his imported car.

Seeing the price of the ring for the first time, his hands trembled. He felt resentful towards Hyunji.

Even though she clearly knows my salary.

Despite Heunji’s demanding request, Heewook, thinking of the future rewards, forced a smile.
A few hours ago, on his way out for an external appointment, Taejoon habitually stopped by Soeun’s desk. He noticed her wiping sweat with a tired look. He turned back, went up to the Support Team, and asked all the staff for ice cream, handing over his personal card. Remembering the day Soeun got drunk, he recalled her mentioning the name of the ice cream and specifically requested that brand.

Around 3 PM, he received a report from the Support Team that the ice cream had arrived, but he couldn’t confirm it directly as he was outside. Throughout the meeting, Taejoon thought about Soeun’s face while eating ice cream. She ate udon and beef brisket soup vigorously, so how would she look while eating ice cream?

Perhaps it was because of the hot weather or the aftereffects of tossing and turning all night. When he thought of Hansoeun, it seemed like he was suffering from a blurry disease that clouded his vision.

After finishing the external schedule and returning to the company, Taejoon headed straight to the Mobile Service Team. It was the time after the reception work had ended, and Soeun was not at her desk, so he wandered around for a while.

While Taejoon was wandering, the team leader of the Mobile Service Team approached.

“Hello, Director Kim.”

“Yes, Team Leader.”

Taejoon stopped and greeted.

“It must have been hard for you due to the hot weather.”

“No, it wasn’t. Thanks for the ice cream today. Thanks to that, I was able to finish my work with energy. Everyone liked it.”

“It’s nothing much. Anyway, I’m glad it could be a small help for you to regain energy.”

While Taejoon continued the conversation with the team leader, he kept looking around. And when he approached the Repair Workshop, he heard Park Bobae talking to Soeun.

“Oh? Director-nim, you didn’t wear glasses today?”

“Yeah. I was busy this morning and came out right away. I put on lenses a while ago. But is the lens better than glasses?”

“No, no! Lenses are much better. You look much prettier with lenses.”

“Really? Lenses are better?”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
