The new year dawned.

The snow that had begun falling since the morning of December 31st blanketed the entire world in white by evening.

On the last night of December, the two enjoyed dinner at a fancy restaurant before heading to Joo Won’s house.

As they shared a beer and chatted about this and that, a dazzling fireworks display erupted from the tall tower near Joo Won’s home, nearing midnight.

They stepped out onto the balcony, embraced tightly, and watched the beautiful, colorful fireworks bursting in the sky.

Soon after, a countdown appeared on the tower’s giant digital screen to ring in the new year.

“5, 4, 3, 2, 1!”

Cheers rose from all around, and the sound of firecrackers echoed through the air.

Filled with hope for the new year and brimming with love for each other, they shared a kiss warmer than anyone else’s.

As promised, Lee I Na visited Joo Won’s father’s house for a meal on the first weekend of January.

Her heart pounded wildly as she passed through the massive gate that swung open with weighty grandeur, but she smiled, comforted by Joo Won’s hand firmly holding hers.

The moment she saw Joo Won’s father, the memory of his kind smile toward her back in middle school flooded back, and tears unexpectedly welled in her eyes.

Joo Won’s father looked surprised to see Lee I Na, now a proper young lady, but greeted her with the same gentle smile he’d offered thirteen years ago.

Yet, her joy was brief—Lee I Na found herself in a dilemma: should she address him as “Mr. Joo” or “Father”?

Sensing her unease, Joo Won’s father kindly told her to call him “Mr. Joo” for now, to keep things comfortable.
