Date Me! (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
I poured another shot of soju and quietly swallowed it when Lee I Na returned from the restroom and sat back down.
Lee I Na was about to pour soju into Joo Won’s glass but noticed the bottle was empty.
“We’ve finished the soju—should I order another bottle?”
At Lee I Na’s words, Joo Won looked up at her face.
Joo Won’s complexion remained unchanged, but Lee I Na’s face had turned bright red.
“You okay? Your face is really flushed.”
“Oh, I always get like this when I drink. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Let’s just get one more bottle for now.”
Lee I Na pressed the call button and ordered another bottle of soju.
“How much can you drink?”
Joo Won asked, handing Lee I Na a glass of cool water.
“Hmm… around one or two bottles? What about you?”
“I’m not sure—I’ve never actually gotten drunk before.”
“Wow, never gotten drunk? You’re a total lightweight, then?”
“Lightweight? Nah, not really.”
Joo Won let out a soft chuckle just as a staff member arrived with the soju.
As Joo Won poured soju into Lee I Na’s glass, he asked,
“So, what do you do for work?”
“Me? I work in HR. And you?”
“I work at a trading company—handling both import and export.”
“Wow, no wonder your Japanese is so good—you work in trading?”
“Not exactly… Actually, it’s my father’s company.”
“Your father?”
Lee I Na’s eyes widened.
“Yeah. After my parents divorced, he struggled for a few years but eventually started his own company again. Thankfully, it took off—grew bigger and busier. Around that time, I’d just graduated from college, and he kept urging me to join, so I did.”
“Wow, really? Your father’s truly impressive.”
Joo Won responded only with a faint smile.
“Oh, by the way—I usually get off work around six, unless I’m super busy, so I can swing by your office afterward and our timing should match up. Later, just send me your office address on KakaoTalk.”
“Sure, thanks! Since you’re being so nice, I’ll treat you to dinner for a whole week.”
“Dinner? Nah, it’s fine.”
“No, really. I have to eat anyway, and food tastes better when shared.”
At Lee I Na’s words, Joo Won let out a small laugh.
“You still love eating, huh?”
“Of course! Duh! Eating delicious food is literally my favorite thing in the whole world.”
Joo Won smiled and replied,
“Alright then. Let’s eat something tasty on Monday.”
The two chatted about all sorts of things and finished another bottle of soju. When it struck eleven, they stood up to leave.
Lee I Na reached for the bill, but Joo Won quickly snatched it away.
“Huh? Why? I said I’d pay.”
“No, I’ll cover it. Next time, you can.”
Lee I Na followed Joo Won to the counter with an awkward expression as he went to pay.
“I really should’ve paid… Then I’ll treat you to something really delicious on Monday.”
Joo Won answered only with a smile.
“We’re taking a taxi, right?”
“Yeah, of course.”
They slowly walked toward the taxi stand.
Almost midnight, the taxi stand was packed with people waiting for cabs.
Since it was Friday night, quite a few of them were completely drunk.
As we stood side by side waiting for an empty taxi, one drunken man next to Lee I Na wobbled and leaned against her.
“Mommy…”
Startled, Lee I Na let out a small shriek. Joo Won immediately pulled her close, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and drawing her to his side.

Then, in a low voice, he spoke to the bleary-eyed drunk,
“Please be more careful.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry!”
Fortunately, the drunk man bowed his head in apology and staggered backward.
But even after the drunk had stepped away, Joo Won’s hand remained on her shoulder, and Lee I Na suddenly felt strange.
Biting her lip gently, she glanced sideways at Joo Won—only to find him looking back down at her.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
Staring into Joo Won’s dark eyes, Lee I Na’s heart suddenly fluttered.
Flustered, she quickly looked away, and Joo Won slowly removed his hand from her shoulder.
‘What was that? Why did my heart suddenly race like that?’
Lee I Na was bewildered.
Too embarrassed to look anywhere but straight ahead, she stood there silently—until a taxi pulled up moments later.
“Let’s go.”
Joo Won opened the back door and motioned for Lee I Na to get in first, then followed and sat beside her.
“Huh? You’re coming with me?”
“We’re going the same way. I’ll drop you off and head home.”
“But… aren’t you tired? It’s almost midnight.”
“It’s the weekend tomorrow—it’s fine.”
“Still… I feel kinda bad…”
“It’s a short ride—no need to feel bad.”
After giving the driver the address, the taxi soon pulled away.
To calm her fluttering heart, Lee I Na turned her head and gazed out the window.
On the road through the dark night, countless cars sparkled with lights, busily rushing off somewhere.
Soon the taxi crossed a bridge over the Han River, and Lee I Na looked down at the quietly rippling water in the pitch-black darkness.
As she watched the river, her racing heart finally began to settle.
She took a deep breath and let out a silent sigh.
So much had happened today.
Already exhausted from work, after clocking out she met Jung Hoon, who had crudely interrogated her in front of friends and even twisted her wrist.
If Joo Won hadn’t shown up, Jung Hoon surely would have dragged her away, spewing more vulgarities.
But even more astonishing was Joo Won’s sudden reappearance after thirteen years.
At twenty, Lee I Na had moved alone to Seoul after getting accepted into a university there.
Right after arriving, she’d gone to Joo Hee’s old house, just in case—but strangers already lived there.
She’d asked their middle school classmates, but no one knew Joo Hee’s new contact information.
She’d searched everywhere, but ultimately failed to find Joo Hee, spending the next thirteen years recalling her only through memories.
All those years, how often had she missed and longed for Joo Hee…
Whenever Joo Hee appeared even in dreams—still as she was in ninth grade—how overjoyed Lee I Na had been…
And thinking of Joo Hee naturally made her wonder about Joo Won too.
Is Joo Won doing well? Is he still as handsome? Has his cold personality stayed the same?
She’d tucked all those unanswered questions away, stacking them quietly in a corner of her heart…
And then, today, Joo Won suddenly appeared before her—
in the worst possible situation she could never have imagined.
Remembering the dizzying events of just a few hours ago, she unconsciously sighed deeply.
“What’s wrong?”
Noticing her sigh, Joo Won turned to look at her.
“Huh?”
“Feeling unwell?”
Seeing Joo Won’s concerned gaze, Lee I Na shook her head.
“No, it’s not that… I was just… thinking about various things…”
At Lee I Na’s words, Joo Won silently watched her.
“There’s no need to overthink it. Time will make you forget everything.”

He must have assumed she was upset about what had happened earlier today.
Instead of answering, Lee I Na stared intently into Joo Won’s dark eyes.
As she gazed into his deep, calm black eyes, she suddenly remembered the very first time she’d looked into them.
That day had been thirteen years ago, early April.
The moment Joo Won stepped through the front door, someone came running toward him and stopped abruptly in his path.
“Wooow…”
An unfamiliar girl stood before him, hands clasped as if in prayer, staring up at Joo Won in awe.
With her short hair and petite frame, the girl’s warm brown eyes sparkled brightly as she gazed at him dreamily.
“So you’re Joo Won?”
Frowning, Joo Won scanned the intruder who’d blocked his way.
She wore the same school uniform as Joo Hee, and her name tag read “Seo I Na.”
Having finished his quick assessment, Joo Won looked down at her and asked,
“Do I know you? Why are you speaking informally to someone you’ve never met?”
“Huh?”
Utterly unexpected words came from the stunningly handsome Joo Won, who stood bathed in a halo of light—and Lee I Na was flustered.
Before she could respond, a sudden whooshing sound came from behind her.
Something sliced through the air and flew straight toward Joo Won’s face—but he swiftly reached out and caught it midflight.
It was a soboro bread.
“What’s with that rude way of speaking to my sister’s friend?”
Startled, Lee I Na turned around to see Joo Hee glaring at Joo Won, holding a cream-filled pastry in one hand.
“Sister? Please.”
At Joo Won’s indifferent reply, another cream pastry came flying—this time Lee I Na jumped to block it, only to get smacked straight in the face.
With a rustle of the bag, the cream bread landed squarely on Lee I Na’s cheek and dropped to the floor.
“Oh no!”
Joo Hee rushed over, and Lee I Na rubbed her left cheek where the bread had hit and picked it up.
“You okay?”
When Joo Hee asked apologetically, Lee I Na nodded and gave a sheepish smile.
Joo Won glanced briefly at the two of them, took off his shoes, and stepped inside.
“Are you two a comedy duo or something?”
After tossing that remark, Joo Won headed toward the living room. Joo Hee immediately grabbed another pastry, but Lee I Na quickly stopped her.
“Joo Hee! Don’t!”
“Ugh, that brat is seriously…”
Seeing Joo Hee shaking her fist at Joo Won’s back, Lee I Na looked shocked.
She’d never seen Joo Hee act like this at school before.
Noticing Lee I Na’s expression, Joo Hee gave an embarrassed smile and tucked her hair behind her ears.
“Surprised? First time seeing me like this?”
Lee I Na nodded, and Joo Hee picked up the cream bread that had fallen to the floor.
“As you can see, my little brother’s such a pain… Whenever he’s home, my second personality just bursts out without me even realizing.”
Now back to her usual gentle self, Joo Hee smiled sweetly and said softly,
“But… your brother is seriously gorgeous. You’re incredibly pretty too, but your brother is unreal—like a total idol…”
Lee I Na murmured as if entranced, causing Joo Hee to suddenly turn serious.
“An idol? Him? Are you out of your mind?”
Joo Hee’s genuinely indignant tone made Lee I Na’s eyes widen.
“He’s got a good face, sure—but his personality? So prickly and cold! You have no idea how harsh he is to girls who confess to him—some even cried from heartbreak! Who does he think he is, anyway? And even though I was born five whole minutes before him and am clearly his older sister, he’s never once called me ‘noona’! How could I possibly adore a brat like that?”
Suddenly confronted again by Joo Hee’s second personality, Lee I Na stood speechless, “Uh…”—but just then, Joo Won reappeared.
“Five minutes? Seriously with that ‘older sister’ nonsense?”
Shooting Joo Hee a look of pity, Joo Won turned toward the stairs leading upstairs.
“Hey!”
Joo Hee yelled and threw the pastry—but Joo Won quickly spun around and caught it midair.
“Wow! Nice catch!”

Lee I Na clapped without thinking, causing both Joo Won and Joo Hee to stare at her.
After a brief silence, Lee I Na laughed awkwardly.
“Hahaha… your reflexes are seriously amazing.”
Joo Won glanced at her beaming, thumbs-up smile and muttered under his breath,
“Where’d you find another one just like yourself?”
At that, Joo Hee snatched up the cream bread again and hurled it—but it hit the stairs and immediately dropped to the floor.
That was Lee I Na’s first meeting with Joo Won.
