Created a Reverse Harem in a Doomed World (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 5
“What… what is that?”
“The Imperial Palace…”
“It looks as though it’s become some creature’s nest.”
‘Damn it.’
The barrier that had concealed the view from the people vanished, revealing the palace beyond the ornate iron bars of the gate—a truly pitiful sight.
Every single window of the once-beautiful palace, built of white marble, was shattered. Between the broken panes, zombified people poked their heads out, peering around restlessly.
Bloodstains splattered here and there were visible, and horrifyingly, even the bloody handprints of those who’d tried to escape but failed remained.
The sight of countless zombies crammed into windows, faces barely protruding, resembled demons risen from hell. The Central Palace had become a full-fledged zombie den, on the verge of bursting open.
“Grrrrrrr…”
“S-something’s coming out!”
Once the barrier lifted, zombies began pouring out through the doors of the Central Palace.
No—“opened” was far too refined a word. The doors shattered with a loud creaking sound, and zombies spilled out like a swarm of bees.
The mages were flustered at the sight of the zombies.
“D-Duke Keaton, what in the world is that?”
“…That’s the trouble in the palace my daughter mentioned. So it was true after all…”
Duke Keaton looked utterly dazed—clearly shocked beyond measure by the zombies.
“Didn’t you just ask what it was!”
I answered in place of the stunned duke.
“Those are the ‘things’ I explained before—humans infected by the plague. If they bite us, we’ll turn into them too.”
“…What did you say?”
“This is the emergency I warned you about. Right now, the mages must join forces with the duke’s private soldiers to deal with those zombies… no, those plague-infected people.”
‘Right, Zero?’
「Yeah. At this point, the only way to handle those zombies is to kill them.」
When my possessed-helper Miuna or Gouna spoke, I had no choice but to listen.
I drew the gun holstered at my waist and loaded it.
Having received early firearms training as a child alongside my parents, who enjoyed shooting as a hobby, the gun felt familiar and comforting—a nostalgic presence.
“Aim for the head. You must target the head.”
“Huh?”
“Otherwise, we’ll be the ones who die.”
No sooner had I finished speaking than the horde of zombies that had escaped the Central Palace began surging toward the main gate in a thunderous wave. Following the shattered windows, the walls of the Central Palace—crafted from white marble and gleaming gold—began crumbling apart.
“Grrrrrrr…!”
“Eeek!”
The zombies crowded together as if they’d caught the scent of humans—it was a truly grim sight. The mages trembled violently, repeating only, “What is that?”
“If they come out, aim for the head without fail.”
“But… how can we attack people who were once human…”
“The moment they’re infected by that plague, they’re no longer human. Everyone, snap out of it and prepare for battle.”
How many people were still inside the palace? How many had survived without turning into zombies? That worried me.
‘We absolutely must eliminate them all here.’
Otherwise, containing the zombies would become nearly impossible. And then, the difficulty of everything I’d need to do to get back home would skyrocket to the highest level.
“Grrrrrrr!”
“S-someone’s charging at us!”
One zombie broke through the horde and approached us at high speed. With the soldiers, the duke, and the mages all frozen in place, I stepped forward and aimed my gun at it.
But the zombie’s appearance looked strangely familiar.
“…Your Highness the Crown Prince?”
“Grrrrraaagh.”
Though stained and filthy with blood, his radiant golden hair, bloodshot eyes half-rolled back and crimson-red, were unmistakable.
And his white tailcoat, smeared with gore—and most tellingly, the bite marks on his neck left by human teeth.
“Grrrrrrr!”
“It—it really is His Highness the Crown Prince!”
‘Damn it.’

If the Crown Prince emerged here…
“Cease fire! Cease fire at once!”
“How dare you shoot the Crown Prince! Even if he’s afflicted by the plague, this is treason!”
To hell with that.
In this Western-style medieval romance fantasy novel, where feudalism breathes and lives, social status reigns supreme.
Here’s the problem: when the zombified Crown Prince charges at the soldiers, how will these imperial subjects act?
Answer: It’ll descend into infuriatingly frustrating plot development!
Hahahaha! Damn it!
That cursed class system wouldn’t allow anyone to lay a finger on the zombified Crown Prince.
The mages dispatched from the Mage Tower and Duke Keaton’s private soldiers all stared at me as if I were insane, refusing to harm the prince. Naturally, their spells, guns, and swords all lowered—a truly lamentable sight.
Seriously? Hey, I may be a noble lady, but is that any way to look at me? Ugh, being the villainess is so damn depressing.
‘If they knew I killed the female lead—the Crown Princess—by stabbing her in the forehead with a stiletto heel, they’d faint dead away.’
Ironically, even the nobles who’d witnessed me severing the Crown Princess zombie’s life were now in a state where their own survival was uncertain.
“If no one else will attack, then I will.”
I raised my revolver again. I never expected to use this expensive, high-performance custom-made weapon from the Mage Tower here, but I was glad at least I had it.
‘I have to kill him before he breaks through to the main gate.’
Without hesitation, I aimed the barrel once more at the zombified Crown Prince. My target was the exact center of his head. It took only seconds.
Every bullet loaded in this revolver was an enchanted round. Upon impact, the magic bullet would explode like a small bomb, utterly shattering whatever it hit.
So, pulling the trigger would’ve killed the Crown Prince zombie—but…
“Have you truly gone mad? How dare you point a gun at His Highness the Crown Prince!”
“Argh!”
…Duke Keaton’s horrified interference ruined everything.
“Even if you’re driven mad by unrequited love, how could you try to harm a person!”
“Damn it, he’s not a person anymore!”
And for the record, I’m not some tragic heroine.
But His Grace Duke Henry Keaton, blinded by loyalty, ignored my protest entirely.
He was blocking my tearful epidemic control efforts—what was I supposed to do?
I wished someone would pour some soda on this chokingly frustrating plot twist, but I had no allies here. Damn it.
How’s a possessed girl supposed to survive this heartbreak?
“Step aside. That thing needs to die. And for the record, I never loved that bastard even once.”
Since things had come to this, I might as well confess my true feelings—and Zero was utterly shocked.
「Whoa, that’s breaking canon…!」
‘Seriously? Even in a situation like this, you’re worried about the original plot?’
「Ah, right. You’ve got a point.」
I left the furious duke behind and pulled the trigger toward the Crown Prince zombie.
Bang!
“Argh!”
Sadly, the attempt failed.
Duke Keaton shoved me, and I missed the Crown Prince zombie’s head.
The stray bullet lodged near his feet. The Crown Prince zombie flinched at the loud gunshot.
Then he let out a deafening roar.
“Grrrrrrr!”
‘Damn.’
They must be especially sensitive to sound—upon hearing the Crown Prince zombie’s thunderous shout, a writhing mass of zombies surged forward behind him.
Dozens of pairs of bright red eyes had already reached the gate, flashing toward the group of soldiers I stood with.
Damn, I’d just poked a hornet’s nest.
“Eeek…”
A terrified whimper escaped from somewhere.
Overwhelmed by the alien aura of beings no longer human, they’d sunk deep into fear.
Those zombies were predators. We living humans—including me—were prey.

It was only natural to be instinctively terrified.
I was no different, but to avoid provoking the zombies, I covered my mouth with one hand and muffled my sounds as much as possible.
“Grrrrraaagh…”
The no-longer-human zombies fixed their gazes on the living and gaped their mouths wide. Their teeth were stained with blood.
I decided not to think about the bits of human flesh stuck on their tongues or between their teeth. My mental health mattered too much.
「Want me to apply a filter?」
Zero, surprisingly considerate for once. No reason not to take him up on it.
‘Yeah.’
[Filter applied.]Great. The zombie imagery before my eyes dropped from an R-rating to a PG-13.
Unlike me, who’d regained composure, the mages—who’d never encountered real zombies before—turned deathly pale.
“M-mon-monster…”
‘You didn’t call him a monster when you saw the Crown Prince zombie earlier.’
I scowled as I pushed myself up from the ground. The truth was bitter: they saw the Crown Prince as just another monster, yet hesitated to attack out of fear of repercussions.
Gripping the reloaded revolver tightly, I thought:
‘…I have to get out of here.’
Initial containment had already failed. The zombies had seized the palace gates—the last line of defense—and were now packed so tightly they seemed ready to burst out toward us like an explosion.
‘I need to adjust my plan.’
At the very least, I should have the mages re-cast the barrier to keep that horde from escaping. I spoke inwardly to Zero.
‘Zero.’
「Yeah.」
‘…How many survivors are left inside?’
「Planning to rescue them?」
‘No.’
It was impossible. Honestly, charging into a palace crawling with zombies to save unknown survivors was nothing short of walking straight to the underworld.
「Surprising. You seem cold, but I always thought you had a kind side.」
Zero assessed me as if genuinely taken aback.
‘Shut up and just tell me about the survivors.’
「None. Everyone inside has already turned into zombies.」
Maybe it was a relief not to feel guilty.
There was no time to drown in emotions.
‘If I want to save the people still outside, this is my only chance.’
I was about to ask the Mage Tower’s dispatched mages to create a new barrier to trap the zombies inside—
—but Duke Keaton caused trouble.
“Your Highness the Crown Prince, don’t you recognize your humble servant?”
“Grrrrrr…”
“It is I, Duke Keaton! The loyal servant of the Imperial House!”

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Synopsis:

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.
While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
