“If it’s not an earthquake, what is this?”
As I asked while hiding under the table, Zero licked his lips.
“This is a vibration caused by a massive influx of zombies. They are swarming in.”
“What did you say?”
Before I could hear the answer, terrifying screams echoed from all directions.
“Kwaaaah!”
“Kiaaaah!”
“Uuu… Uuuuaaa…”
The zombies, who had been quiet so far, or only made noise when there was prey in front of them, were now loudly howling. It was loud enough to be heard by us hiding inside the mansion.
The screams of zombies, yelling like they were charging, struck fear into us.
“Why… why is this happening?”
“Sister, I’m scared…”
Sherry and Jessica, who stayed in the reception room and took cover, hugged each other, trembling with fear.
“I don’t know either. But… one thing is for sure; it doesn’t seem to be a favorable situation for us.”
Wooong…
The sound of the trembling ground gradually intensified, and the frequency increased.
“The outside seems unusual. It’s better to check it out.”
“…Let’s do that.”
Not knowing what the situation was, instead of being anxious, it was better to go out, investigate, and collect information directly.
“If the vibration is felt so clearly, does it mean that the zombies are getting closer?”
“Highly likely. The mage who created the zombies, Kirei Warei, was beaten badly by you and fled. ”
Zero’s expression was unsettling. The mischievous smile that he enjoyed teasing with disappeared, leaving only seriousness, making me involuntarily shiver.
“I’ll go out with Zero. To check what happened outside.”
As I tried to get up to turn the doorknob in the reception room, the party members who had been crumpled up in the corner popped out.
“We’ll go with you.”
“Me too! Duke, we are already united as one.”
“I don’t know what unity Lu is talking about, but let’s go together for now.”
“When going to a dangerous place, it’s natural to go with your comrades.”
Michael, Ruth, Benedict, and Aston spoke in turn, and since they opened the door and went out first, I couldn’t refuse them.
“There is a magic barrier around the mansion, so I can go out alone…”
I thought Zero would support me, but he didn’t.
“No. It could be different this time. The fact that the ground is shaking so much means it might be a deliberate act by that Kirei to completely trample down this mansion.”
“…I hope not.”
We had already fought against Kirei. The madness that oozed from him was like an indescribable, thick darkness.
Especially when he looked at me as if I were his archenemy.
‘Isn’t he his own enemy as the true head of the family?’
Kirei, the one who sought out and annihilated the Warei family of Linstead, was none other than Kirei himself. Being a member of the family, there was no one to stop him, including the family head Kie and his twin brother.
It would have been unimaginable for Kirei to think that he would end the lives of all the members of the Warei family. Nevertheless, it was eerie to see everyone quietly and without resistance meet their deaths.
‘I am bothered by what Kirei mentioned about the ‘previous.”
It seemed that there was more information to uncover about him.
As I prepared to go outside with a magic gun, Tiryum, holding his hunched back, followed me, albeit slowly.
“Hey, Tiryum? Why are you coming with me? It’s dangerous, so you should stay inside.”
“Evil beings, zombies in this case, are swarming. I cannot just stand still when such creatures, ultimately created by forbidden magic, are approaching. Isn’t it the duty of a mage to thoroughly observe zombies at a time like this?”
Tiryum, holding a staff, looked fragile, but his determination was as strong as a tiger. With clear and transparent eyes, I realized that I couldn’t dissuade her.
“All right. Let’s go together. Although Zero’s words are a bit unsettling, as long as there is a magic barrier covering the mansion, we should be safe for now.”
“It’s an honor to be allowed. Lady of Kalladia.”
Supporting the uncomfortable Tiryum at my side, we walked towards the garden with a magic barrier.
“Oh my…”
And there, we witnessed a hellish scene.
“Kyaaaaaah!”
“Kwaaaaah!”
“Uuuuuuaaaaa! Aaaaah!”
Zombies, swarming like a horde, clung to the transparent dome-shaped magic barrier, pounding it with their hands and feet. Apparently unsatisfied with that, they used their teeth, claws, and even crushed their heads, employing various actions to break the barrier.
‘… How did they sense the barrier?’
Is it Kirei’s doing? Is he using Sienna’s body to extract information about this mansion?
‘I need to stop them!’
As soon as that thought crossed my mind, lumps of divine power thickly gathered in my hands.
When the zombies saw me making eye contact with them, they momentarily froze in place.
「They instinctively fear an awakened saint like you. They know that you are their natural enemy.」
“… Can they stay like this?”
「Not a chance.」
As the red-sealed mark appeared on the foreheads of the frozen zombies, they became ferocious again.
“Kwaaaaah!”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
