Amidst Sienna’s sudden behavior, almost like a time bomb, leaving me stunned and frozen, a voice of salvation echoed.
“What are you doing here, Your Highness Hwang Taeja-bi?”
It was Aston.
“Oh, I… I wanted to meet Viscount Kitten, so I hurriedly knocked on the door. That’s why.”
“Normally, the Viscount is inside his office, so you should have gone there. Why did you come to this communication room where outsiders are not allowed to be?”
“Well… the maids told me that the Viscount wasn’t in his office, so maybe he could be in the communication room.”
I thought it was a reasonable excuse, but Aston coldly dismissed it.
“It is true that Viscount Kitten’s servants are kind to Your Highness. They sympathize with Your Highness. However, the loyalty of the people here is solely directed towards the Viscount. Even if I am the Second Prince, I am excluded from vital information because I am not directly involved in politics and need to be protected in this urgent fight.”
It was true. This was a strategy both Aston and I had intended. The party members had also agreed.
Sienna is a zombie. So, we had to conceal maximum confidential information from her. However, we needed to make her, who looked like a human to others, not stand out while doing so, under the pretext of protection.
The Crown Princess being protected like a flower in a greenhouse didn’t seem strange.
“You have no right to meddle in this matter, Your Highness. So, please leave.”
Sienna, in response to Aston’s indifferent and chilling words, raised her voice as if irritated.
“…I am also a royal! Your Highness Hwang Taeja, even if I lost my memory, I don’t want to abandon the responsibility of being the Crown Princess and just seek protection. I also want to share the duty of fighting against the monsters.”
Until now, she had always been gentle and kind, but now Sienna’s behavior was the opposite.
Restless and with a new voice, Sienna, raising her voice like a growl, sounded unfamiliar.
“You are saying that my husband, Your Highness Hwang Taeja, is pitifully turned into a zombie and that’s why you are treating me like this? If my spouse, who was a royal, has passed away, then I am not a royal? If not, instead of continuously suspecting whether I, who suddenly appeared surviving from outside, am a zombie or not, what about something else?”
‘Oh…’
It seemed like a prepared psychological tactic, but the target was incorrect.
Aston, along with our party members, already knew that Sienna was a zombie.
As I held my breath and listened to the outside sounds, Aston let out a snort.
“Who said what?”
“Excuse me?”
“No one has ever asked if Your Highness Hwang Taeja-bi is a zombie. However, you seemed to have thought so on your own, as if harboring a sense of entitlement… Did it strike a nerve, perhaps?”
“Your Highness Second Prince!”
Sienna, visibly angry, could be sensed trembling beyond the door.
“The Viscount assigned a surveillance maid to me. I am not an ignorant fool! Even so, can you sell me as someone having baseless thoughts?”
‘Well, this is true…’
It seems my cover was blown. Sienna’s silence didn’t mean she was clueless. Scratching my head, Aston detonated a bomb with his words.
“Yes.”
“…What did you say?”
“Isn’t that purely Your Highness Hwang Taeja-bi’s thought? There’s only suspicion, no evidence.”
“W-Well…”
“To accuse someone without evidence is something Your Highness Hwang Taeja-bi seems to be good at.”
I find such behavior utterly vulgar and contemptible.
A cold voice, sharp like icicles rather than thorns, echoed even though Aston’s expression behind the door was hidden. Despite always showing me a gentle smile.
“Oh, how dare you insult me like this…”
As Sienna stammered, Aston sighed.
“Just leave when you have something nice to say. I won’t tolerate it just because you’re a royal. If anyone here shows suspicious behavior, I will handle it directly. Whether they are a saint or a royal.”
Slick.
The sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath without hesitation reached my ears. Then the pitiful sound of Sienna’s trembling heels echoed through the air.
“Your Highness Second Prince, I didn’t expect you to be so barbaric. I will file a complaint with the Viscount later!”
“You want to complain? That’s truly unbecoming of a royal, Your Highness. Besides, even if you complain to Viscount Kitten, who is on my side and my trusted ally, it won’t make any difference.”
After that conversation, there were no more sounds of struggling.
‘Wow…’
Aston was not only skilled in sword fighting but also in verbal sparring.
He truly deserved the title of Mouth Fighter. It was the epitome of the rude and arrogant prince. I wanted to applaud.
As I tried to quietly return to my seat, a knock on the door echoed.
“May I come in, Viscount?”
‘Ah.’
Did he hear everything from the beginning? Did he know I was listening all along?
Sweating cold beads, I heard a soft laughter from outside the door.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
