Couples in Love (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
“You! What on earth are you two doing?”
Jin Young Cheol, a four-term National Assembly member of the Republic of Korea, was utterly shocked by the sight of his son and daughter-in-law before him.
Though they’d arrived early in the morning, he certainly hadn’t expected his son Sunwoo to appear wearing only pants, his broad shoulders and muscular torso fully exposed.
Han Moon Taek, CEO of the online news outlet Wide Sisa, was just as flustered.
He’d hurried over after preparing breakfast at dawn, urging his daughter Green to sign the divorce papers—but instead, Green stood there awkwardly, clearly embarrassed, wearing what was unmistakably Sunwoo’s oversized T-shirt like a mini dress.
There was no way to feign ignorance; it was obvious they’d clearly spent the night together—and rather passionately, too, the night before their scheduled divorce!
Sunwoo’s brow furrowed in clear displeasure at the sight of his father and father-in-law barging into their newlywed home unannounced.
“What’s the big deal? We’re married—it’s not like we cheated.”
At Sunwoo’s sullen reply, Jin Young Cheol ground his teeth in frustration.
“Are you out of your mind? Didn’t I explicitly say I’d submit your divorce papers the moment the courthouse opened?”
He shook the divorce documents aggressively right in front of Sunwoo’s face. His son and daughter-in-law, who’d been married in name only all year, had chosen this exact moment to consummate their union—it drove him absolutely mad.
Meanwhile, a crafty smile flickered briefly across Han Moon Taek’s face—he’d already done the mental math.
“You married out of necessity, and now that that necessity is gone, a clean separation makes sense. But under these new circumstances, things have changed, Assemblyman.”
“Changed? What scam are you cooking up this time?”
“Don’t put it that way—it’s offensive. If you took Green’s virginity right before the divorce, Jin Sunwoo must take responsibility.”
Han Moon Taek’s words stunned not only his daughter Green but Sunwoo and Jin Young Cheol as well. The man who’d been most eager for this divorce was now demanding his son-in-law take responsibility?
Sunwoo was the first to regain his composure and speak.
“So you mean you want us not to divorce?”
“Taking responsibility doesn’t only mean staying married, Jin Sunwoo. There’s also the simple option of financial compensation—what’s commonly called alimony!”
“Father, please stop!”
Green trembled with shame. For a brief moment, she’d foolishly hoped he was opposing the divorce for her sake.
Jin Young Cheol’s face flushed red with fury as well.
“You shameless con artist! You expect me to believe that ‘first time’ nonsense?”
“Do you have any idea how strictly I raised Green? She’s never even held hands with a man until today! If you’ve taken advantage of such an innocent girl, you must compensate her—financially, if nothing else!”
“Only your daughter was a virgin? My son was one too! He’s so obsessed with work he’s treated women like stones. Since your daughter took his innocence, she owes him alimony too!”
“Are you even making sense? A thirty-two-year-old man with that body, that face, that talent—and you claim your daughter was his first? Even stray dogs would laugh!”
The low-quality bickering between Jin Young Cheol and Han Moon Taek escalated, and Sunwoo watched both his father and father-in-law with cold eyes,
already calculating how best to exact his revenge.
“I have something to say!”
At that moment, Green suddenly thrust her hand up, interrupting the degrading exchange between Jin Young Cheol and Han Moon Taek.
“Father, I think you’ve misunderstood—I’m not a virgin.”
“What? Han Green, what on earth are you saying?”
“Before marriage, I slept with both men I dated. And during my gap year and while job-hunting, I had several one-night stands at clubs to cope with the stress.”
“What?”
Green’s bombshell turned Han Moon Taek’s face ashen, while Jin Young Cheol’s expression shifted to one of contempt mixed with smug triumph.
Sunwoo, however, looked at Green with admiration and respect.
“Hearing Miss Green speak so boldly, I feel I should summon my own courage.”
“Jin Sunwoo—shut your mouth.”
Instinctively sensing danger, Jin Young Cheol tried to silence his son. But Sunwoo merely chuckled softly and said what he had to say.
“During my year in France, I didn’t just sit alone. Being naturally curious and open-minded, I didn’t discriminate by nationality, skin color, religion—or even gender…”
“Shut up, Jin Sunwoo!”
Furious, Jin Young Cheol lost control and flipped over the living room table.
The loud crash and chaos of items scattering everywhere frightened Green, who flinched in fear—but Sunwoo quickly stepped in front of her.
Seeing Jin Young Cheol fuming, Han Moon Taek realized there was nothing more to exploit from this household and hurriedly pulled out the divorce papers.
“Enough! The longer we argue, the uglier it gets. Let’s just wrap this up quickly. Green, sign here.”
“Nonsense! Sunwoo, you sign too. I’ll have Secretary Kim file it at the courthouse.”
At that instant, Sunwoo grabbed Green’s hand.
“Father, Father-in-law—we’re not getting divorced.”
“What nonsense is this now?”
“We spent the night together and realized we’re incredibly compatible.”

Sunwoo interlaced his fingers through Green’s slender ones, locking them together, then gave her a sweet smile.
“From now on, let’s take things slowly and get to know each other properly.”
Stunned speechless by his son’s outrageous statement, Jin Young Cheol stood with his mouth agape, unable to utter a word.
Han Moon Taek, equally incredulous, turned to his daughter.
“Green! You can’t possibly mean…?”
“Today marks Day One for us.”
Though she addressed her father, Green’s eyes were fixed on Sunwoo—sharing a look of perfect mutual understanding.
To deliver one final, glorious “screw you” to their fathers, this couple, who’d lived as strangers for a year, resolved to start dating—effective immediately.
*****
Han Green had first met Jin Sunwoo a year ago.
If not for her father Han Moon Taek, they might never have crossed paths—even by chance—because their worlds were so vastly different.
“Father, do you even know what day today is?”
Green glared coldly at Han Moon Taek as he stumbled home drunk late at night.
“Today? It’s Tuesday—why?”
“Never mind. Why is Mom’s hospital bill overdue again last month?”
Their father-daughter relationship had been seriously strained for nearly five years.
Her father had always been selfish and work-obsessed, but their relationship hadn’t been this terrible before.
“Journalism is an important profession—don’t you understand? Dad’s just busy doing big things. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t love us.”
Whenever young Green complained about her father, her mother would always defend him.
Thanks to that, Green’s attitude toward him had been distant but not hateful—at least, not until her mother fell into a coma after a hit-and-run accident.
“How could he do this to Mom? Not visiting her hospital room even once in five years—is that normal?”
Whether he understood his daughter’s resentment or not, Han Moon Taek—deeply drunk—grinned proudly.
“Don’t worry about the hospital bills—they’ll be sorted soon. I just met with Assemblyman Jin Young Cheol and Vice Chairwoman Park In Young, and everything’s settled. Those high-and-mighty people have finally approved your marriage to Jin Sunwoo!”
Han Moon Taek placed both hands firmly on his hips and puffed out his chest, expecting tearful gratitude from his moved daughter.
Instead, Green’s already disdainful gaze turned even colder.
“So I somehow managed to land their golden only son—a four-term National Assemblyman’s heir and the vice chairwoman of a major conglomerate?”
“All thanks to having a capable father like me.”
Though Han Moon Taek replied proudly, Green wasn’t fooled.
“You blackmailed Assemblyman Jin Young Cheol with evidence of his corruption, didn’t you?”
Han Moon Taek, a former twenty-year veteran political reporter for the conservative daily Koryo Ilbo, now CEO of the online outlet Wide Sisa, had once been nicknamed “Han Mama” by politicians—a reference to “Smallpox Mama,” because he was just as feared and bothersome, knowing all their dirty secrets better than anyone else.
“The introductory meeting is next week. Go to the salon, get a massage—the in-laws will appreciate you looking your best.”
Flushed with alcohol and in high spirits, Han Moon Taek laughed heartily. This marriage meant salvation for Wide Sisa, which was on the brink of bankruptcy.
The moment he hinted he’d soon become K1 Construction’s prospective in-law, investors lined up offering bags of cash.
Not only that—construction-related companies suddenly flooded him with calls offering advertisements, and securing ad deals from K1 Construction itself seemed like a done deal.
Convinced this marriage would solve all his problems, Han Moon Taek couldn’t stop grinning.
“Once your wedding is finalized, we’ll move your mom to a private room. Sounds good?”
Certain Green couldn’t possibly refuse, Han Moon Taek whistled cheerfully as he disappeared into the master bedroom. Left alone in the living room, Green’s face twisted in despair.
Biting her lips until they nearly bled, she resolutely headed upstairs to her room and pushed aside a bookshelf stuffed with books.
When a narrow gap—just wide enough for a hand—appeared between the wall and shelf, Green reached in and pulled out a yellowed envelope.
“Idiot Father—it’s Mom’s birthday today.”
Brushing off the thick layer of dust from the envelope, Green muttered expressionlessly.
“I’m sorry, but I’ll never do as you wish.”
*****
The next morning, Green stood before K1 Construction’s headquarters—a symbol of power in the heart of Jongno. Facing the ultra-modern skyscraper, she felt painfully insignificant.
The heavy camera bag slung over her shoulder annoyed her too—it was just bad timing. Last night, she’d unexpectedly gotten a job shooting profile photos for aspiring models.
She should’ve declined, considering what lay ahead—but she couldn’t refuse the request from the modeling academy director, whom she’d known since her gap year.
Plus, with her father defaulting on her mother’s hospital bills again last month, every single won truly counted.
Thus, she’d had no choice but to lug along her DSLR, telephoto lens, and spare battery pack.
Though she always carried this bag for work, today it felt especially out of place.
“Damn it.”

Though she kept shrinking under her own reflection in the glass facade, she had no time to hesitate—it was the introductory meeting next week!
Determined to sabotage the marriage today, Green took a deep breath.
“I won’t expect anything more from Father. I’ll work harder and pay Mom’s hospital bills myself.”
Reigniting her resolve, Green stepped through the revolving door of the high-tech building. A receptionist greeted her with a kind smile.
“How may I assist you?”
“I’m here to see Head Manager Jin Sunwoo of the Development Business Division.”
Upon hearing her request, the receptionist maintained her polite but robotic smile.
“I see. Do you have an appointment?”
“Yes… No.”
“Pardon?”
Caught off guard by the receptionist’s puzzled look, Green quickly composed herself and spoke confidently.
“Please tell Head Manager Jin Sunwoo that Han Green is here. He’ll definitely see me.”
“I’m sorry, but you must have a prior appointment to meet the Head Manager.”
“If he says no, I’ll leave without another word. Just please tell him I’m here.”
The receptionist—usually skilled at handling visitors—hesitated momentarily. From experience, she knew this woman wasn’t someone who’d leave easily.
Rather than waste the morning dealing with a persistent “tick,” it was better to just make a quick call to the Head Manager’s office.
She quickly picked up the receiver and dialed, not forgetting to glance at Green with a hint of scorn.
“Assistant Director An, a Ms. Han Green is here without an appointment, insisting on seeing Head Manager Jin Sunwoo. Yes, Han Green. …I see. Understood.”
After ending the call, the receptionist turned to Green with slightly flushed cheeks.
“Head Manager Jin has a meeting in twenty minutes. If you can finish your business within fifteen minutes, you may go up.”
“Of course.”
Finally able to see him, Green’s previously tense face bloomed into a bright, rosy smile.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
