Dimidius was startled while taking an early morning stroll in the garden—he had spotted Lilith standing beside Orentia. Lilith hadn’t changed at all since before, making her instantly recognizable. Though Dimidius recognized his mother at a glance, he couldn’t bring himself to approach her. At the first-floor hall, Dimidius spotted Head Butler Alfred and walked over to him.

“Head Butler. Unless I’m dreaming, an utterly unexpected guest has arrived. Find out what’s going on and report back to me.”

That was all Dimidius could manage right now.

Alfred, startled, quickly bowed low and replied urgently.

“A guest has arrived, you say? Understood. I shall attend to her immediately.”

Having served as butler of the Grand Ducal Palace for many years, Alfred would surely recognize Lilith. Dimidius fled into his study like a man escaping.

Feeling drained, he sank onto the sofa—and his legs trembled involuntarily. He’d faced many challenges in life, but this was the first time he’d ever felt so nervous.

Dimidius’s face grew increasingly pale, and ragged breaths escaped his lips. He squeezed his eyes shut, struggling hard to regain composure. He didn’t want anyone to see him shaken.
