They searched all of Geranium but couldn’t find Podeon. He had clearly already slipped out of the imperial capital and safely reached the Belial territory. If Orentia saw Podeon alive and moving freely, she wouldn’t even turn her head toward the imperial capital—after all, she had only come to the Crown Prince’s palace under duress because of the hostage situation.

Regalis exploded in fury before the stunned guards.

“What good are you if you can’t even catch one measly rat!”

The Geranium guards, facing Regalis’s wrath, all bowed their heads deeply and remained silent—they hadn’t found even a shadow of the man the Crown Prince had ordered them to capture at all costs. The knights of the Crown Prince’s palace were in no better shape; they had been closest to Regalis and were deeply worried.

This was utterly unlike his usual self, who would spend his days playing cards at the gentlemen’s club or lounging with women in debauchery.

Regalis’s normally sly expression had hardened completely, and he looked extremely agitated, as if he had lost something vital. It was the first time anyone had seen him like this.

After all, Regalis was a man who had been born with everything, someone who had never known true lack.

Just then, an aide approached the fuming Regalis and whispered crucial information into his ear.

“The Grand Duke and knights from the Belial Order have arrived in Geranium. Judging by their demeanor, they seem to be searching for someone. There are also rumors spreading that the Grand Duchess has gone missing from the Grand Ducal Palace.”

It was astonishing news. Regalis blinked rapidly and said to his aide,

“Then it’s possible that Orentia left the Grand Ducal Palace around the same time Podeon disappeared, intending to come to the Crown Prince’s palace. I must find her. I’ll mobilize every available resource.”

Though the Grand Duke’s resources and intelligence were formidable, the Crown Prince intended to pursue every avenue to find Orentia, including leveraging the Information Guild. It might even be wise for him to personally visit Count Armenuaka, who had known Orentia since she was a child.

Regalis had resolved that if he ever got Orentia back, he would never let her go anywhere again. He had foolishly trusted that, once used as a hostage, she would safely complete the negotiated divorce and return—but he never imagined things would go so wrong. To be betrayed by Daphne, whom he had trusted!

Just as Regalis was about to move out with his guards and palace knights, screams erupted from Owen Square, followed by wisps of black smoke beginning to rise.

Frowning, Regalis turned toward Owen Square, Geranium’s symbolic plaza.
