Kilrun arrived at the Grand Duke’s castle only when evening had nearly fallen, and he headed straight for Dimidius’s office. Though he had finally managed to conclude the contract—a joyful piece of news—he couldn’t predict how Dimidius would react.

After entering Dimidius’s office and reporting the situation, Kilrun hesitated for a moment. The usually calm atmosphere of the office had subtly shifted. Since Dimidius always wore a mask that concealed his expression, Kilrun had grown accustomed to sensing his mood through his aura instead.

“Is something bothering you?”

At Kilrun’s question, Dimidius leaned back in his leather chair and let out a deep sigh.

“Kilrun, I’m sure you’ve found the right person. Good work.”

“Thank you.”

The reason he’d been able to find the right person was entirely thanks to Orentia, who possessed holy power. But he intended to take that secret to his grave. Orentia had requested it herself, and Kilrun lacked the courage to face Dimidius’s wrath.

At that moment, Dimidius turned his chair to gaze out the window. Whenever deep in thought, he always stared blankly at the scenery outside.

Kilrun swallowed hard and waited, then heard Dimidius’s low voice.

“You think the Lady will leave my side once the contract ends?”

Such an awkward question. Kilrun remembered clearly how determined Orentia had been to leave when they’d been at the Pit of Life and Death, and he bit his lip. He, too, wished Orentia would stay by Dimidius’s side a little longer.

But if that wasn’t possible, it was better to put a stop to Dimidius’s growing feelings before they became overwhelming.

Kilrun spoke in a somewhat cold tone.

“You drafted the contract yourself. The Lady will leave someday, and Your Grace won’t be able to hold her back.”

It was the choice he made for Dimidius. Kilrun was the only one who could speak to him this way.
