When I stepped out of the courtroom, Sokor was waiting for me. With hollow eyes and a gaunt face, he spoke to Orentia.

“How about having tea at Count Armenuaka’s manor for the first time in a while?”

Count Armenuaka’s manor, built of red bricks—it felt as if just thinking of it filled my chest with longing.

Orentia readily accepted Sokor’s invitation. After all, Kikozelia had been arrested and thrown into prison, and Sokor seemed to be acting this way out of guilt toward her.

Orentia approached the Belial family members who had been waiting for her, explained the situation, and then boarded the familiar carriage with Sokor. It felt strangely emotional to see the carriage adorned with apricot trees after such a long time.

Orentia spoke to Sokor, whose complexion looked particularly poor.

“I’ve spent my whole life tightly wound up—sometimes, it’s necessary to let go like this. Doesn’t it make me seem more human?”

“You don’t have to force a smile. You look truly miserable right now.”

His wife of many years, with whom he’d shared joys and hardships, had just committed a serious crime and been imprisoned—there was no way Sokor could remain composed. He’d always cared deeply about presenting a normal, harmonious family image to others.

Orentia drew the curtains aside and gazed out toward Green Park. The Grand Duke’s townhouse—the Belial family residence—was also nearby. It was almost miraculous to think that two estates stood so close within Green Park, yet they’d never crossed paths all this time.

Her parents and Sokor had rarely let her go outside, always insisting the world beyond was too dangerous.
