Staring at the black paint, Orentia breathed heavily until, before she knew it, Dimidius—his hair as black as ink—flashed into her mind. His glossy locks looked so soft they made her want to reach out and touch them. She had painted everything black precisely to erase all the bright, colorful hues, yet he was the one who came to mind. She must truly be losing her sanity.

Ever since seeing Dimidius’s face in the study and again in her bedroom, Orentia had felt like a fish hopelessly entangled in a net—not even one he’d cast, but one she’d thrown herself, now utterly trapped and unable to move.

With a deep sigh, Orentia finally set down her brush. She no longer wanted to produce anything more—certainly not what amounted to mere scribbles.

Only then did Bobby smooth a hand over her chest and speak to Orentia.

“The elders from the Belial territory will be arriving shortly. You must prepare yourself, my lady.”

Today was the day Dimidius would convene with the elders in the council hall to discuss the prosperity of the domain. Though Orentia wouldn’t attend the meeting, she still needed to step out and offer her greetings.

With Bobby’s help, she changed into an outfit suitable for receiving guests. The dress was neat and somewhat heavy, yet it matched her current mood perfectly.

Orentia then stepped out onto the veranda. Dimidius was already there, waiting ahead of her.

Neither Orentia nor Dimidius spoke a word to each other. For the first time, standing beside him felt unbearably lonely.

‘All I have to do is ignore him too. So stop feeling sad.’

Resolving this in her heart, Orentia turned her gaze toward the approaching carriages. Well-dressed gentlemen stepped out, greeted her and Dimidius with warm smiles, and approached.

“Your presence to welcome us is an honor for our house, Your Grace.”

“It is my first time greeting your lady. I am truly delighted to make your acquaintance.”

“You are as beautiful as we’ve heard.”

“How do you find life in the Grand Duke’s palace?”
