It was unclear whether Dimidius was joking or serious. It seemed like a joke, as his voice sounded quite mischievous, and the way he propped his chin on his hand appeared playful.

But then, Count Odor readily agreed.

“Excellent! Feel free to stay as long as you like.”

‘There’s no need to be that happy about it. What am I supposed to do now!’

Orentia couldn’t help but show a deeply disappointed expression. Her lips turned downward, and her shoulders slumped. Suddenly, even with the exquisite dishes in front of her, her appetite vanished. Her emotions were fluctuating extremely.

Then Dimidius removed his hand from his chin and said teasingly,

“It seems I really have to stay for a few more days, but it appears the Lady is uncomfortable. Are you disappointed that I’m staying longer?”

She couldn’t possibly agree openly in front of her uncle.

Orentia quickly shook her head. For a moment, she thought about wearing a mask like Dimidius. It seemed very effective in hiding emotions.

‘I got too obviously disappointed… I need to be careful.’

Clearing her throat, Orentia forced a smile.

“I’m also staying at Count Odor’s residence, so it doesn’t matter to me. If Uncle is fine with it, then it’s fine.”

Watching Orentia’s effort to cover up her feelings, Dimidius nodded.

“Yes. Then, I look forward to our continued acquaintance, Lady Armanika.”

His words were unusually polite. Orentia responded vaguely and turned her attention back to the food. Focusing on eating seemed much better when feeling embarrassed.

After the uncomfortable lunch, Orentia stayed in the garden, aimlessly looking at the flowers. The daffodils with their straight stems and yellow blossoms were beautiful, especially in a group. She loved how simple flowers could come together to create such charm.

On the white table, Count Odor’s maids had prepared flower tea. Orentia stood there, unable to sit and drink the tea calmly. She was waiting for a letter.

“When will it come… It’s not coming, is it?”

Eventually, she muttered those ominous words.

Orentia despised feeling anxious and uncomfortable. If the letter was buried like this, she couldn’t bear it. She would surely have to seek out Ankedo herself, a dangerously risky move.

It was then that she saw Bobbi, who had been absent during lunch, approaching from the distance near the fountain.

Bobbi seemed in a hurry, running towards Orentia.

“Miss! Huff huff! A letter has arrived for you at Count Odor’s residence.”

Orentia couldn’t help but exclaim in relief. If it was a letter, it must be from Ankedo, and it was indeed something Bobbi would run for. Bobbi knew how eagerly Orentia had been awaiting a reply.

Shortly after, breathless Bobbi handed Orentia a clean, white envelope. There was no name or address written on it.

Swallowing nervously, Orentia pulled out the letter from the envelope. Her heart pounded wildly, and her hands trembled as she held the letter. Bobbi was watching, so she couldn’t show any suspicious behavior, but it was hard to calm down.

Orentia pretended to stroll in the garden, slightly turning away from Bobbi to check the letter.

Just reading those two lines, Orentia dropped the letter. It fluttered down gently onto the yellow daffodils.

‘…Was I really having prophetic dreams?’

It couldn’t be just a lucky guess. Orentia was not that naive.
She picked up the letter from the flower bed and took deep, agitated breaths. She wanted to scream right then, but there were too many eyes around. She had to maintain her usual demeanor.

Orentia carefully read the letter again and then went to her room on the 3rd floor of Count Odor’s residence. She felt dizzy, as if she might collapse. The event was that shocking, and she was troubled about what to do.

Then, seeing Orentia sitting dazedly on the bed, Bobbi asked in a worried voice.

“What’s wrong? Did you receive bad news?”

Orentia blinked for a while before finally speaking.

“No. Fortunately, Mr. Ankedo says he can provide an opinion that might change the Archbishop’s mind.”

“That’s good news then!”

“Yes, it is. But I feel a bit unwell today. I’m going to lie down and rest; could you leave me alone?”

She really felt unwell, probably due to the shock of the prophetic dream being real.

Once Bobbi hesitantly left, Orentia finally took a deep breath. The letter had details about the transaction of the magical device, including the date and place. It was scheduled for four days later at Ankedo’s mansion, then moving to a secretive location.

What could this secretive place be?

Could it be the room full of mirrors?

According to the prophetic dream, Ankedo goes to a room full of mirrors to check on the embezzled money. Although the scene changed before she saw where the money was.

If the place of the magical device transaction was in the building with that room, then it might be where Ankedo would find the church’s embezzled money.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
