Orlentia’s eyes grew cold and sharp.

She had taken a servant’s carriage to leave discreetly, wary of her quick-witted cousin Sokor possibly having her followed. She planned to walk the rest of the way to the lawyer’s office with Bobi.

However, as they neared Shine Street, they found it bustling with a festival. People spilled out of a side street, noisy and boisterous.

Orlentia frowned at the sight.

“Let’s go drink! Today’s the day to drink!”

“A day blessed by the god of the deer!”

‘What are they talking about?’

Soon, Orlentia found herself trapped among the crowd, losing sight of Bobi.

“Ah! Miss!”

“Bobi!”

Being left alone in a crowd for the first time, Orlentia looked around frantically for Bobi.

That’s when it happened.

“Ah!”

A small, scrawny boy snatched her bag, which held a significant amount of money for the lawyer’s fee, and darted out of the crowd.

“Wait! Excuse me, please.”

Despite her efforts, the crowd was too dense, and she struggled to get through.

Finally, she managed to escape the throng and looked around for the boy.

“He went this way, didn’t he?”

Turning into an alley, she came upon a famous weapons shop.

Suddenly, ding-dong!

A bell rang, and a man with an enormous build emerged from the shop.

His face was as white as plaster.

No, it wasn’t his face; the man was wearing a full white bauta mask. His black hair was neatly combed, and his shoulders were broad.

Orlentia gasped in surprise and pointed at him.

“The man from my dream?”

A large man wearing a plain white bauta mask – exactly like the man in her dream, her contractual marriage partner.

Feeling a lump in her throat and her heart flutter, Orlentia was struck by a sense of destiny, perhaps prompted by the bell.

However, the man, seemingly unfazed by her staring, continued on his way, not reacting to being pointed at.

Orlentia’s finger hung in the air, feeling absurdly futile.

His broad shoulders, tall stature, and slim waist brought back a more detailed image of the husband from her dream.

Without realizing it, Orlentia reached out and grabbed the hem of his clothes.

“Just a moment, please!”

It was her first time initiating contact with a man. Usually, men lined up in front of her at social parties.

The man, his expression hidden by the mask, looked down at her with a cold and imposing air.

“…What is it?”

His voice was deep and husky, just like in her dream.

Orlentia shivered with a strange feeling, still gripping his clothing.

“That is, have we met before?”

Resorting to a line one might expect from a bygone era, Orlentia spoke sincerely.

She believed the dream she had wasn’t just any dream. It was unusual for her to remember a dream so vividly and repeatedly ponder over it.

“I don’t recall seeing you before. I’m unsure what you’re referring to.”

His response was full of bewilderment.

‘I guess I would feel the same.’

But Orlentia disliked leaving things unresolved. The dream kept nagging at her.

“I have a face that’s hard to forget once seen. Are you sure we haven’t met? It’s bothering me.”
Orlentia, quite confident in her appearance, had resorted to a somewhat childish remark. The man, while fastening the cufflinks on his wrist, chuckled lightly. It was only then that he seemed to show some interest in Orlentia.

“Regrettably, I think I’ll forget by tomorrow.”

“What, what did you say?”

“I tend to forget things that are not important.”

‘He’s definitely mocking me.’

Fuming with anger and her face flushed red, Orlentia clenched her fists. It was the first time she had encountered such rudeness, despite her admittedly unusual approach of stopping a passerby.

Orlentia scrutinized the man dressed in a black uniform from head to toe. Judging by his high-quality attire, he seemed to be from a well-to-do family. But why would someone like him be attending a masquerade this early in the morning? If he were that kind of person, she would have known.

There would be a smell of alcohol if he were close…

She sniffed discreetly, but instead of alcohol, she detected a bitter, woody scent from him, a unique fragrance that suited him well.

Feeling even more annoyed, Orlentia abruptly turned her head away.

“I’m really sorry for bothering you! I’ll be leaving now.”

It was evident that the man in the mask was not the dreamy, passionate man from her dream. Orlentia glanced around, searching for Bobi and having given up on retrieving her stolen bag.

“Hmm, Bobi must have gone towards Karunda’s law office.”

Given their destination, she figured Bobi would have headed there, but Orlentia didn’t know her way around Shine Street.

Wandering aimlessly, she lamented, “Where exactly is the office?”

She wanted to ask for directions but hesitated, her pride preventing her. After what felt like an endless walk, she spotted the boy who had stolen her bag. He was confidently strutting through Shine Street with a group of slickly dressed men.

“You, you!”

When Orlentia called out, the refined-looking men turned their heads in unison, their gazes persistently sinister, like predators circling their prey.
