Was it his breath that was hot? Or his body? Ji Ho couldn’t tell. He just felt like his entire body had fallen into a pit of fire and was burning fiercely.

What could he even call this feeling?

It was like pouring water over a completely unrolled roll of toilet paper—soaked helplessly by the fiercely seeping liquid, now irreversibly ruined.

There was no way forward except to keep moving ahead.

“Stay the night. Tonight.”

Ji Ho pressed his lips to the nape of Ra Jin’s neck, pleading desperately for her permission.

‘She hasn’t been feeling well for a while… she must be out of her mind.’

Even though he knew the burden she would feel, he used her poor condition as an excuse. Inside, he kept blaming and reflecting on himself, yet he was terrified she might leave.

‘Ha, I’m going insane.’

The relentless schedule that had continued since the special investigation began, plus today’s interrogation of Oh Jong Hyuk—Ji Ho’s nerves were stretched to the breaking point.

Unlike the beginning when he had been utterly terrified, Oh Jong Hyuk gradually regained his composure.

Even when presented with clear evidence of the crime, he just kept denying everything without limit. Not satisfied with that, he egged on his lawyer and dragged things out for ages, claiming coercive investigation and the like.

In the end, the guy slipped away like a loach, so Ji Ho couldn’t even get through half of the prepared questioning.

The road ahead was long, the deadline tight. He ended up wasting as much time reviewing the transcript as he had spent on the interrogation itself. With all the endless quibbling and demands for corrections, his head felt like it was going to split open.

He notified Oh Jong Hyuk of a re-summons and returned to the office near midnight.
