‘What should I do?’
Lajin realized she couldn’t take back the words she had already spoken out loud. No, she didn’t want to.
But as Prosecutor Kang Jiho’s silence prolonged, her anxiety grew. Was it too burdensome for him?
If he came to her house, she wouldn’t have to bother Haeun for a ride, nor worry about any unforeseen issues on the way to a meeting place.
She had overlooked the one thing: the pressure of inviting someone to her home.
Being a cautious person, he would probably deliberate more. Should she explain more to Prosecutor Kang? Unable to bear the silence any longer, Lajin broke it first.
“Is it because of the tailing?”
[No, it’s not.]So, it was a burden. There were plenty of valid reasons for why it had to be her house, and Lajin was ready to explain them carefully.
“I’m tired because of the emotional drain today.”
[Was it very difficult?]“Kim Yoojun came out with a huge dog, and it was really scary.”
[You must have had a hard time.]His flat voice suddenly felt warm.
“And the way they were shouting. I’m still shaking because I had to be careful of both of them.”
[You’re not hurt, right?]The illusion of being cared for, even his trivial words felt emotional.
“I wanted to talk about it more at home.”
[Wouldn’t that be inconvenient?]“What would be?”
[Going to your personal space.]“Not having to watch out for anything. Um, not having to care about people’s gazes. Uh, I mean, I like my house!”
Despite her bold words, her voice trembled like a goat. The pitch got higher and higher until it cracked. This is crazy, really.
“Of course, you can refuse if it’s uncomfortable for you.”
She wasn’t desperate to have him over, but she attached all sorts of reasons like a lawyer preparing a final plea. And still, she regretted it, drumming her forehead.
When a red mark was about to appear on her white forehead, he cleared his throat like turning on a blinker.
[What time?]“Whenever it’s convenient for you, Jiho.”
Despite her racing heart, she tried to act composed.
[I’ll be there within two hours.]“You can park in front of the house.”
[If there’s an unfamiliar car, it might attract attention, so I’ll take a taxi.]“Ah, okay. Please let me know when you’re about to leave.”
Lajin made sure to tell him to be careful and then hung up the phone.
“Aaack!”
As soon as the call ended, she screamed and threw herself on the sofa.
“I’m crazy! I’m crazy!”
She flailed her arms and legs towards the ceiling, then smacked her cheeks asking if she was out of her mind. Then she covered her burning face with both hands.
“‘Was it very difficult?'”
She repeated Prosecutor Kang’s words and then burst into laughter. His words felt so reassuring that Lajin chuckled for a while before suddenly getting up.
“Ah! Do I have anything to eat at home?”
There was plenty of food sent by Kim Yoojun, but it would be absurd to share that with him. Moreover, she couldn’t just offer him plain water when inviting an important person over.
It was 3 PM, and he said he would arrive within two hours, a perfect time for an early dinner.
“This is not the time for this.”
Suddenly feeling urgent, Lajin ran into the kitchen.
Jiho could describe his current emotions in one word. Very clearly and neatly.
“I’m going crazy.”
He didn’t view Lajin romantically, but it was disconcerting how much trust she placed in him.
And with her voice trembling as she piled on reasons, how could he possibly say… no, he couldn’t even bring himself to say that going to a woman’s house was burdensome.
“Ha.”
He wasn’t some teenager to get fluttery about being invited over. Jiho shook his head.
“Get a grip. Focus!”
“What’s wrong?”
Hojin, who had been working on labeling just outside the door, abruptly opened it.
“Oh, nothing.”
If he was going to work on something significant with her, he should be prepared to go to even more challenging places. Besides, hadn’t they already been together in a hotel room, even if it was a residence? Assigning meaning to each of these trivial things was a waste of time.
If she called, he should go, listen to what she has to say, and then return. It was that simple. Jiho tried to suppress his wavering heart.
“Hojin, did you contact the other department today?”
“Yes. We got the warrant, and we decided to comb through O Jonghyuk’s foreign exchange transactions.”
Jiho nodded lightly and turned his gaze back to the monitor.
“It seems like something suspicious has come up.”
“There won’t be any problem with arresting him at the airport, right?”
Jiho asked while organizing the papers spread out before him.
“Yes, with the current situation.”
Unable to focus on his work, Jiho suddenly stood up. He picked up the papers, glanced at the monitor, and then looked out the window, making Hojin tilt his head in confusion.
“What’s up?”
“Oh, nothing.”
“Did you get a call from the goddess?”
When Hojin asked the question Jiho really wanted to know, he slightly pulled down his tie.
“It seems something happened at Myungjin today. I’ll go and listen to the story.”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
