Entering the steam-filled bathroom, Ra-jin tested the water temperature with her toe and slowly submerged into the tub.
“Nice.”
With a languid sigh, she leaned back, pressing her pinkish hands against her scalp. Then, thoughts of Prosecutor Kang Ji-ho came to mind.
‘Maybe I should have called him back last night…’
Despite her firm words not to expect anything, his words of waiting hung on her like a tail.
“What celebration between us?”
Shaking her head in disbelief, she sunk deeper into the tub, creating ripples with her palms and kicking as if swimming. Yet, Kang Ji-ho’s gentle voice lingered in her ears.
Did she keep him waiting unnecessarily? She could have outright refused from the beginning instead of leaving things awkward.
“Anyway, from everywhere this morning.”
She spontaneously uttered her annoyance.

After getting out of the bath and draining a bottle of cool water, Ra-jin debated whether to text or call him. Eventually, she picked up the phone she’d tossed on the bed.
“Hello. I fell asleep early yesterday because I was tired…”
Ding-dong―.
“Huh?”
The doorbell rang from downstairs.
It was her day off, and she hadn’t ordered anything or called for housekeeping. Who could it be? Ra-jin descended from the second-floor bedroom with her phone in hand.
“I didn’t order any delivery…!”
At the front door’s wall pad, the misfortune that started yesterday seemed to continue. The moment she saw Kim Yu-jun on the screen, her phone slipped from her grasp.
Oh Jong-hyuk’s persistent calls were because of Kim Yu-jun. Facing his gaze, as if they were having a staring contest through the camera, Ra-jin’s mind went blank.
Kim Yu-jun, a public figure and heir to a conglomerate, with a fiancée, had never come to her house before.

They always met outside or at the Min-jin main house for special occasions. But why here, and now?
He often drove her to her house but had never rung the doorbell like this.
Even when she reluctantly called to apologize under Oh Jong-hyuk’s pressure, Kim Yu-jun, who didn’t answer then, had unexpectedly shown up. Was it a sudden whim? Or had he fought with Jin Jae-yi and, out of anger, decided to come here?
A barrage of assumptions flooded Ra-jin’s mind as she saw Kim Yu-jun’s glaring eyes on the wall pad screen. She paced aimlessly in front of it, lost in thought, until the screen displaying Yu-jun suddenly turned off.
‘Should I pretend I’m not home?’
Even though he likely knew her schedule, Ra-jin couldn’t help but entertain futile thoughts.
She couldn’t invite him into her home alone. Maybe she should go outside? But what if, like at the hotel, something happened again? Ra-jin felt stuck, unable to make a decision, just pacing restlessly.
Just then, her phone, lying on the floor, vibrated loudly, like an excavator drilling through the ground.
The vibration might not reach him waiting at the gate, but it felt like a warning for her to open the door quickly, knowing she was inside.
Ra-jin let out a deep breath as if she’d just surfaced from deep water.
“Ha… Ha.”

She couldn’t tell if he was still standing at the gate or pestering his secretaries. The phone and wall pad returned to silence, their screens pitch black. Ra-jin, her heart fluttering, looked back and forth between them.
Why is it so quiet? Did he call someone to open the door? The longer the silence stretched, the more uncertain she became about what to do.
Just as she was growing anxious with the renewed silence, her phone and doorbell rang simultaneously.
“No choice.”
Ra-jin dashed into the downstairs bathroom and immediately plugged in the hairdryer.
The hottest and strongest blast of air hit her face and back of her head, burning to the point of pain. Her reflection in the mirror turned red as if she’d been standing under the blazing sun.
Her eyes bloodshot and cheeks flushed, she looked as if she was suffering from a high fever. After putting the hairdryer back in its place and slightly messing up her hair, she wondered if it was enough.
Before the artificial heat dissipated, Ra-jin moved quickly.
Zing. Ding-dong, ding-dong―.
As she ran to the wall pad, she gasped for air like a terminally ill heroine. Suddenly, her vision blurred with mirages.

“What to do.”
Kim Yu-jun, again appearing in the small screen, was still standing in the same place, his gaze significantly altered, sharp and almost ready to burst.
Ra-jin, trembling like someone with chills, pressed the microphone button.
“Park Ra-jin.”
The low and cold voice she hadn’t heard in weeks.
Unable to reply or make excuses, she just pressed the button to open the door.
As he vanished from the screen, Ra-jin pressed her hand to her forehead. Her forehead was scorching from tension, and her palms were damp with cold sweat.
Pretending to be sick, she inwardly reassured herself, but then couldn’t help but scoff. How long would she have to keep up this act?
Her life felt like a reality show, scripted and observed, where acting was part of her everyday life.
“Ha.”

The bitterness was fleeting, and Ra-jin realized it was time to be more immersed than ever, like on any film set.
Knock, knock.
The knocking on the front door thundered into Ra-jin’s heart. She reminded herself to act natural, as if she had just woken up, and not to hurry.
Reassuring herself repeatedly, she slowly unlocked the door.
The moment she pulled down the door handle, her body followed the opening door. Ra-jin, completely relaxed, collapsed into Kim Yu-jun’s arms.
That cursed woody scent.
No matter how hard she tried to resist, his heavy body fragrance and his solid chest made her feel dizzy and twisted her body involuntarily.
“Park Ra-jin. You…!”
“Ugh.”
