The hallway fell into silence at Zen’s single utterance of “master.” Delina, momentarily wondering if she’d misheard, twitched her lips before quickly shaking her head toward the nearest person—Bellion—in denial.
“No, no. That’s not it at all.”
Now the other children and Felick’s gazes also turned to Delina. Flustered, she shook her head.
“I never meant for him to call me ‘master’ in the first place… Well, I did say it once before, but that’s not what I meant… I taught him to say my name.”
“My lady.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t worry. I won’t say it anywhere else.”
Felick gave a reassuring, warm smile. Delina, on the verge of tears, spoke to Zen.
“Zen. That’s not my name, right? Huh? I clearly taught you my actual name.”
Desperate to clear up the misunderstanding, Delina leaned in close to Zen’s face, nearly interrogating him.
“It definitely started with ‘Del-,’ right? Huh?”
“Delina.”
“Yes, exactly! That’s it!”
“Master.”
