Eden quickly scanned the square and the buildings surrounding it. There were dozens of windows in the inn, various shops, and buildings of unknown purpose.

Behind those windows, beyond the curtains, there might be a Hoon Tribe hunter aiming an arrow. Eden lowered his hand to his side, gripped his sword, and glanced toward Keen, who was waiting at the ten o’clock position.

“I’ve never seen you before. How do you know me?”

“I don’t know proper etiquette. Hello, Your Highness, Princess of Tane.”

“Princess? Do you… perhaps know Patricia?”

The boy leaned his elbow back onto the stone rim of the fountain, gazing at the water splitting apart, and murmured softly.

“The man behind the green curtains on the third floor of the inn at four o’clock—no weapon. On the rooftop of the hat shop at six o’clock—again, unclear if armed. At ten o’clock, against the outer wall, a man in a black robe—he has a sword hidden beneath it. Directly ahead at twelve o’clock, the fruit vendor—he’s someone under Vinenn’s gang leader, but a man who betrays as easily as drinking water.”

The man at ten o’clock mentioned by the boy was Eden’s trusted aide, Keen. The other three were strangers to both Eden and Patrick.

There was no flock of white birds flying about. No Hoon Tribe hunters—yet among those watching, someone must have been sent by the Empress Consort.

Eden was astonished by the boy’s sharp observation, pinpointing the exact locations and armaments of their watchers, but he couldn’t afford to waste time here.

“My lord, we should move.”

“Eden, keep watch on the rooftop at six o’clock.”

“Yes.”

“What’s your name?”

“Jet. I have no surname.”
