Philip declared the closure of the round table meeting.

Two secretaries submitted the minutes they had each recorded to Assistant Philip.

The seventeen participants who attended the meeting shook hands and left the conference room in groups of a few. The emperor called out to Bark, the representative of the Hungs tribe.

Bark, who was about to leave the conference room, went in front of the emperor and bowed.

“I have a favor to ask of you.”

“I’ll gladly do anything.”

“Patricia is currently teaching the imperial common language at the poorhouse. It will probably end in about an hour. Wait for her and go to the dining hall to have dinner together.”

“Is that alright?”

“Of course.”

The emperor put his hand on Bark’s shoulder and said with a secretive smile.

“Patricia has regained her memories.”

“Oh, I see. She finally recovered them.”

So I hope you can keep her occupied for as long as possible.

Harchen didn’t say the last part out loud. An hour or two would be enough anyway.

“Thank you, …… brother-in-law.”

“I like hearing that title.”

As Bark left the conference room, Calip came to stand beside the emperor.

“Has he arrived?”

“Yes, the chamberlain briefly came in during the meeting earlier and said he had arrived. I’ve guided him to the office.”

“Alright, let’s go.”

The emperor and his closest aides – Calip, Lean, and Philip – left the conference room and walked down the corridor. The surroundings of the corridor, open on three sides except for the wall, were dark. The emperor looked up at the sky.

“The weather is cloudy, it looks like something might pour down.”

As the emperor’s party entered the office, four men sitting at the round table stood up and greeted them formally.

“The undying golden sun of the empire, Otto Kabanian, greets you.”

“Otto Kabanian, is it.”

Harchen quickly scanned them and fixed an intense gaze on the man standing in the middle. Feeling the emperor’s blatant stare, the man straightened his posture and met his eyes.

Harchen, with his keen gaze and insight, observed his face with sharp eyes.

His black hair gleamed with a blue tint, his chin was pointed, and his once large and round eyes were now sharply upturned at the corners.

His sharp nose bridge had become even sharper, and he looked thin, perhaps from not using his body much or wearing oversized clothes.

He wore a white shirt under a lavender jacket, with a pink cravat and flashy accessories, showing an aesthetic sense that overall created a harmonious and splendid appearance.

His eyes were still blood-red.

Eden Patterson! Your eyes are still insolent.

The first agenda of the Imperial Assembly of Tane was to decide on Eden Patterson’s punishment.

When Emperor Kazan, clutching his blood-spewing lungs, spat out “Execute Eden,” it was thought to be his dying words, but he was still alive, hanging on day by day.

Overexposed to the poison and antidote written by Empress Pamila, he had ironically become more tenacious due to the intoxication.

Patrick, who had become the real power in the imperial court, and his close associates tried to guide Eden’s punishment towards exile from the empire, but the vote at the Imperial Assembly overwhelmingly decided on Eden’s execution.

While many criticized Kazan’s vile actions after the sword duel between the two imperial emperors, it was Duke Parse who persistently emphasized that Eden, both the sword of the crown prince and the knight of the emperor, had used a dagger instead of a sword.

The execution was carried out by hanging at the northern tower where Nyx Prison was located, at sunset. Ten representatives of the Imperial Assembly, including the crown prince, attended.

After the hanging, Count Retman personally confirmed the cause of death, and the body was collected by Eden Patterson’s loyal servants Kin, Nine, and a boy named Jet.

The Patterson family members gathered outside the walls of Nyx Prison wept in black silence.

As the arched iron gate opened and a cart covered with black cloth came out, Baroness Patterson fainted upon seeing her son’s pale and bluish feet exposed by the fluttering edge of the black cloth.

The black cloth was removed in the northern forest, and a black group raced through the pitch-black forest. Only red eyes glimmered in the darkness.

The black group briefly stayed in Count Retman’s territory before heading to Osborn on the continent of Asor.

“Your occupation?”

“I’m a painter.”

“Your title?”

“I don’t have one.”

“From today, you are Count Kabanian.”

At the emperor’s declaration, Otto went before the emperor and knelt down.

“We’ll skip the formal title conferment ceremony.”

The emperor wrote “Otto Kabanian” at the top of the document handed by Assistant Philip, signed at the bottom, and gave it to Otto.

Otto received the document and returned to his original seat. Philip unfolded the count’s title certificate, emblem, and documents regarding the county, which had been prepared in advance, and explained them to Otto.

“His Majesty has granted you this entire area next to Duke Pessoa’s territory in the Roche Mountains as your county.”

“I decline the territory. I’ve already decided where to stay.”

Otto, who had been listening to the assistant’s explanation, said to the emperor.

“Where?”

“I’ve purchased a townhouse behind Epi Lake in the capital.”

“Not allowed.”

“Do I need permission?”

“Be aware of your situation. What if someone discovers you?”

The emperor was afraid and annoyed that the “someone” might be Patricia. He was already uneasy about Otto being deep in the Roche Mountains, let alone living right under his nose.

This bastard, does he have some other ulterior motive?

“I am Otto Kabanian.”

“You must have prepared yourself anyway, so why do you want to live in a forest of people?”

“That’s exactly it. That’s why I sought a new life.”

“I can’t control you staying at the townhouse for a few days. But your residence will be in the county.”

“I accept your command.”

Harchen narrowed his eyes and looked at him again with a sharp gaze. Although his appearance had changed, a few words exchanged would reveal everything. Especially she, Patricia, would surely recognize him immediately.

“If your secret is revealed to anyone, you must either eliminate them or, if you can’t, take your own life.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

Knock knock knock. The chamberlain opened the door slightly and announced.

“Your Majesty, Her Majesty the Empress has arrived.”

“Let’s go back now.”

Patricia walked quickly towards the poorhouse’s learning center. She felt urgent and anxious.

As she entered the learning center, a girl was sobbing.

“Jessie, what’s the matter?”

The usually quiet child had her arms behind her back. Patricia grabbed Jessie’s arm and was surprised to see a wound with red droplets of blood.

“Oh my, what happened? That must hurt. Wait just a moment.”

Patricia glared at Bark, who had somehow entered the learning center despite being told to wait outside and was now surrounded by children showing them a white bird, before going to the poorhouse office.

What a disobedient little brother.

She asked the volunteer coordinator for a first aid kit.

“Is someone hurt?”

“Jessie has a wound on her arm.”

“Julia left earlier saying she had a severe migraine.”

“Oh, is that so?”

Patricia put aside her intention to leave early. While she poured disinfectant on Jessie’s arm, applied ointment, and wrapped it with gauze, the child endured well, keeping her eyes tightly shut despite the likely stinging pain.

“Where did you get scratched?”

“Yes.”

New tears flowed down her cheeks, already stained from dried tears.

Seven-year-old Jessie cried not because her arm hurt, but because the gaze of Julia, the princess she adored so much, was frighteningly fierce as she struck Jessie’s arm with a fan.

For the remaining time, the children in the learning center sat closely around the white prince.

Bark showed off his trick of making the white bird fly freely with his whistle, and the children were mesmerized by the bird’s wing movements, their mouths agape.

Patricia, writing new homework in the children’s notebooks, looked at Bark and chuckled.

To think I have such a big little brother.

When the bell rang signaling the end of class, the children didn’t rush to the dining hall but instead clung to Bark.

“Please come again tomorrow, Prince.”

“I’ll introduce you to our princess.”

“Can’t you leave the white bird here?”

Patricia put on her gloves and quickly left the learning center. Bark, who followed right after, looked up at the sky heavily covered with thick dark clouds.

“Sister, let’s go to a nice restaurant in Epi Street.”

“Next time.”

In front of the carriage, Patricia stood on her tiptoes to match Bark’s tall height and touched his cheek with her gloved hand.

“I’m happy to suddenly have such a big little brother too. But I have something urgent to do. Let’s have dinner tomorrow.”

“Ah, well. It feels so ticklish and nice, Sister!”

Bark blushed, took the hand on his cheek to his lips, then opened the carriage door for her.

“Sir Bern! To the main palace, please.”

Bern, who had been standing by the carriage, also mounted his horse.

When Patricia’s carriage arrived at the main gate of the imperial palace, heavy raindrops began to fall from the sky. By the time the carriage stopped in front of the main palace, the thick raindrops falling from the darkened sky had frozen into ice crystals.

“Your Majesty, please wait a moment. I’ll bring an umbrella.”

Bern opened the carriage door slightly and spoke. Through that narrow gap, a stream of cold air rushed in. Before Patricia could stop him, Bern rode his horse up the stairs.

Patricia opened the carriage door from the inside and got out on her own.

As soon as she stepped out of the carriage, the fierce raindrops and ice crystals struck her body painfully. She grabbed the hem of her dress and quickly climbed the stairs.

A servant standing at the entrance of the main palace rushed down the stairs, but he too had no umbrella.

“Your Majesty, the knight went to get an umbrella, why don’t you wait?”

“Why did you come down? Just run.”

By the time she entered the main palace, her dress was soaked and drooping from the rain. Patricia merely nodded to the gathering servants and walked quickly down the corridor to the emperor’s office.

“Announce me to His Majesty.”

The chamberlain, startled, knocked and opened the door slightly. Patricia, breathing heavily, pushed the door open further and entered.

“Harchen.”

The person who opened the door and came in was Patricia, wet from the rain. And her thick, peculiar body scent rushed in, riding the tightly stagnant air.

Harchen felt dizzy.

These bastards must have all smelled this scent I’m smelling.

He frowned and looked up at Patricia.

“Empress, what is this impolite behavior?”

“Ah! Your Majesty, I didn’t realize you had guests.”

Patricia lowered the hem of her dress that she had raised to her waist and covered her front with her gloved hands.

At the emperor’s signal, the assistant quickly packed the documents and emblem on the table into a box and gave it to Otto’s subordinate Kin.

“Calip, finish the remaining explanation in your office.”

As Otto stood up, Kin, Nine, and Jet also rose.

Patricia raised her lowered head and saw them paying their respects to the emperor.

Jet, who had been staring sideways at Patricia in a daze, was startled when their eyes met and quickly turned his head away.

Patricia frowned slightly as she glanced at the man with bluish-black hair.

Why is he dressed so flashily, even worse than Bark.

Harchen, with his chin raised and thick eyebrows lowered, observed Patricia and them, or more precisely, Otto. Their gazes did not meet.

They backed out and left. Click, the door closed.

“Who were they?”

Harchen’s heart was pounding for various reasons. He approached Patricia while taking off his gloves.

“Empress, how could you appear in front of men in such a state, not knowing who might be in the office?”

Patricia stepped back at Harchen’s angry expression.

“Ah, Harchen. I just had something I was curious about.”

“Looking so wet and provocative like this.”

Patricia’s retreating dress touched the desk.

“Did you want to drive me crazy?”

Pushed by Harchen’s legs, which had come very close, she ended up sitting on the desk.
