Tatkan blinked for a long while, then, seeming truly delighted, darted wildly around the ceiling and spoke hurriedly.

[You can speak the words I speak! How joyful! How could this not be a cause for joy! You must help Asti!]

Latifa was inwardly surprised by the unusually dignified and mature tone—so unlike the impolite mimicry Tatkan usually imitated.

‘Tatkan really is a clever creature. It speaks as well as Caesar.’

“What I can talk to you is a secret. If you keep that secret, I’ll help Princess Asti however I can.”

“Alright! Even a birdbrain like me can keep that promise!”

Overjoyed, Tatkan cried out loudly not with its spirit form but with its beak, swooped down to the floor, and rested its head on Latifa’s palm. Then the silvery spirit grew slightly denser and addressed her.

[Sultan told her to go to the madrasa. Asti doesn’t want to go. She has no friends but me. Nobody likes Asti.]

‘Ah, the madrasa—that’s the literacy school inside the harem palace. So even a princess isn’t exempt, it seems?’

“The madrasa? Then just don’t go. Asti’s a princess anyway.”

[Asti still can’t read. She must study at the madrasa. Also, Sultan commanded Asti to make friends. But Asti can’t make friends—she’s a noble princess!]
