Luhan arrived at the prince’s palace where Tarek was, having walked briskly, and found Tarek lying arrogantly on the carpet in the reception room.

“Brother Luhan, what brings you here? I heard General Hades has come to the palace—why aren’t you rushing off to him instead?”

Wrapped tightly around Tarek’s left shoulder, as he reclined against a cushion, was a white bandage.

“I heard you were badly injured, so I came to visit.”

Luhan spoke gently as he took a seat opposite Tarek.

“Ah.”

Without even glancing toward Luhan, Tarek puffed steadily on his water pipe and stared out the window.

“Tarek.”

“I don’t want to hear your mockery. Everyone in Grand Bazaar is surely laughing at me already—please don’t add to my troubles, Brother.”

From Tarek’s hoarse, rasping voice, Luhan could tell he was extremely angry.

“I didn’t come here to fight. I only wanted to talk for a moment.”

“Mother has gone to the Sultan’s audience chamber to attend the trial—why don’t you go speak with her instead? That would surely be a more pleasant and beneficial use of your time.”

Seeing Tarek’s complete unwillingness to engage in conversation, Luhan found himself at a loss for words.

He and Tarek had never gotten along well since childhood, and it was rare for them to visit each other privately like this.

Luhan paused, carefully considering the words he had chosen in his mind.
