Captured by the Desert Tyrant (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 41
Manut spooned a yellow-tinged whole-grain sauce over the roasted lamb and said,
“A power struggle, isn’t it?”
Irgos, seated across from Manut, downed a goblet of fruit wine in one gulp and retorted,
“Just a power struggle? This will become a battle of the century—one even the Sultan couldn’t stop.”
“Irgos. No matter how wise the Sultan may be, there’s no clever way to stop the fight between General Hades and Iota. Someone has to take a loss and back down.”
“Prince Tarek was injured—anyone can see this is clearly an act of royal assassination. If it were anyone else, they’d already have been dragged straight to the palace for interrogation without a second thought. It’s that serious.”
“But nothing’s happened yet.”
“No. Even for an Ignite, harming royalty is punishable by strict law. Use your head, Manut. How on earth did you graduate from Palaeistra with that brain of yours?”
Irgos popped a roasted ginkgo nut from the silver platter into his mouth and added mockingly,
“If things were as you say, General Hades would’ve been summoned to the palace immediately! So why haven’t they pressed charges for royal assassination yet?”
At Manut’s blank question, Irgos rolled the ginkgo nuts he’d been eating across the table and explained,
“They’re using the crowd. Prince Tarek’s faction attended the Fraü appointment banquet in full force. Most of them are Iota’s political connections, financial backers, or relatives—many aren’t exactly friendly toward our Prince Luhan.”
Still lining up the nuts neatly, Irgos continued explaining to the still-confused Manut,
“In the middle of all that, Prince Tarek got wounded by a lion’s claw—and right then, General ‘Mad Dog’ Hades gave everyone quite a spectacle.”
“Yes. That silver-haired Fraü.”
