Captured by the Desert Tyrant (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 17

Latifa, who had secretly slipped out from under the thick leather flap of the tent, curled her body as tightly as possible to ensure her pale skin wouldn’t be seen.

“With the water we have now, the whole army can barely last two weeks—they say it all poured into the sand!”

“Two weeks? I heard we won’t even make it a week.”

“Damn it. The way back is too far! We’re all dead!”

Sighs of despair from soldiers echoed endlessly all around. Latifa carefully stepped through the shadows between the tents, glancing about.

“It should be somewhere around here… Ah, there it is!”

In a corner of the barracks stood a cart stacked high with small cages—where the messenger hawks were kept.

Latifa quickly approached. Several hawks glared at her with wary, flashing yellow eyes.

Seeing their sharp, unnerving eyes and talons, Latifa awkwardly offered a greeting.

To confirm what she’d heard from the mice yesterday, she needed to hear from other animals as well.

“Oh, um… hello, you guys…?”

—Kyaahh!

The well-trained hawks didn’t readily accept a stranger’s visit. As the birds inside the cages flapped their wings and let out sharp cries, Latifa had no choice but to step back.

‘I can’t see anything. If I can’t see their spirits, I can’t talk to them—what should I do?’

Latifa tried coaxing them with the bread and fruit she’d brought, but the hawks merely flapped their wings as if telling her to stop bothering them and chased her away.
