Unlike Serina, who couldn’t hide her agitation, Ivenel showed not even the slightest change in expression. After a moment, she turned her gaze toward the hand that had just seized her wrist and spoke in a flat, even tone.

“I already told you clearly before—I’m not staying still because I lack a weapon. I meant what I said sincerely.”

Hesitating at those words, Serina glanced cautiously at Ivenel and slowly released the hand she’d been holding.

It had been a long time since they’d last met, yet Ivenel now exuded an even more untouchable aura than before she’d left Aodin. Fear briefly overwhelmed Serina, but she quickly recalled why she’d come here and forced her voice to sound confident.

“Has your mind completely snapped since coming here? Refusing the position of Crown Princess—that’s something the you I knew would never even imagine doing.”

“You haven’t changed at all, even after all this time. Still clinging to those foolish thoughts.”

Though Ivenel had already said as much, she couldn’t hide her disdain at seeing Serina still failing to grasp the situation.

“Do you really think I’m that naive? It’s obvious you’re already scheming how to use me to your advantage. Still, I am curious about one thing—what expression would that man who calls himself my father make if he saw me now, after not showing his face even once before I left?”

If anything, Ivenel felt a pang of regret—not being able to witness his frantic efforts to bring her back after having pushed her into such a corner.

Serina must have come here despite her reservations, knowing it would benefit their family if Ivenel returned to Aodin.

But right now, Serina had something else far more pressing to worry about.

“You probably never expected a situation like this. Try your best to endure it. They have reason to keep me alive in Caries—but not you.”
