In the dark forest, all that reached Evenel, who was left alone, was the terrifying sound of a monster tearing its prey apart.

She held her breath and strained to observe the monster’s form in detail.

A large build reminiscent of a bear, black fur covering its entire body, four large paws, and two sharp fangs that could be glimpsed fleetingly.

“Definitely a Chelp.”

This was a crossroads frequented by people, so encounters with monsters were rare, but there was always the chance of running into one if you were unlucky.

That unlucky individual happened to be her.

“Stay calm. What were the characteristics of Chelp?”

Evenel quickly recalled the information she had studied before coming here.

A monster commonly found near the Ferthi territory, its most distinctive feature was its deteriorating vision, while its sense of hearing was relatively acute.

It was for this reason that it only became active as the sun set.

“Fortunately, this isn’t the worst-case scenario.”

She could get out of this situation unscathed. The Chelp was completely engrossed in eating the prey in front of it, so she just had to quietly leave the area.

There was no need to risk battling the monster. She simply had to return to her party, explain the situation, and depart safely.

Just as Evenel was keeping her eyes on the Chelp in front of her while slowly creating distance, an unexpected voice rang out.

“My lady?”

Startled, she turned her head to see Shian standing there. The problem was that from his position, the monster was perfectly hidden behind a tree.

“This is bad.”

Before Evenel could quietly warn him, Shian raised his voice even more.

“What are you doing there?”

“Why speak at such a crucial moment?” Anger surged within her, but she didn’t have the luxury to dwell on that now.

Perhaps hearing Shian’s voice, the Chelp emitted a threatening growl and looked in his direction.

“My lady?”

Seeing no reaction from Evenel, Shian seemed to sense something was amiss and began to approach her.

“What should I do?”

In the few short seconds that transpired, a multitude of thoughts flashed through her mind. She couldn’t just stand by and watch as the monster attacked Shian, nor could she recklessly tell him to dodge.

The moment she told him to dodge, he would instinctively backtrack, and there his unprepared party waited.
As Chelp assumed a posture as if to pounce at any moment, Evenel wasted no time and moved her hand first.

She drew a gun from her waist and pulled the trigger into the open air. A single blast reverberated through the forest.

Shan abruptly halted his steps at her sudden action. Simultaneously, the monster’s frenzied gaze was directed at her.

As Evenel intended, the creature shifted its target to her.

The moment she locked eyes with its menacing glare, Evenel began to run in the opposite direction from where her companions were. Chelp quickly followed her.

Meanwhile, Shan, not understanding what had just happened, froze as Chelp dashed past him in front of his eyes. Shortly after, he snapped back to reality and started retracing his steps.

Aware that stopping now would mean death, Evenel did not halt her pace even as her breath reached her throat’s limit. Branches and leaves scratched her face as she ran through them.

But she felt no pain from the injuries; she was being chased by a monster.

‘This isn’t a good place for a counter-attack.’

Dodging trees all around the forest was already a challenge. The sound of footsteps pursuing her grew closer in the meantime.

“Please…….”

She broke free onto a narrow forest path just as she felt she was reaching her limit. The sky had gradually begun to brighten.

Seeing that she now had room to maneuver, Evenel turned around and promptly pulled the trigger. The bullet swiftly struck its left leg.

Seizing the moment when Chelp stopped, Evenel caught her breath and increased the distance between them.

‘Where is the core?’

The creature let out a furious roar, and bright red blood dripped from its two protruding fangs.

Then Evenel saw it—the glowing core beneath its right shoulder.

“I have a chance.”

It couldn’t fly, nor did it have a tough skin, so if she aimed accurately, she could bring it down on her own.

Of course, it wasn’t as easy as saying it, but she had no other choice if she wanted to live.

Evenel calmly dodged the charging monster’s attacks, waiting for the perfect timing for her final blow.

Chelp seemed impatient as if it would catch her, yet couldn’t, growing more agitated. And then an opening appeared.

‘Now.’

Evenel quickly took aim, aligned the crosshairs on her target, and pulled the trigger without hesitation. The bullet that left her hand struck the core accurately.

The monster writhed in agony before falling lifelessly to the side.

“Haa, haa…….”
She finally lowered the gun she had been holding, taking a deep, ragged breath.

Struggling to keep from collapsing, she approached the defeated monster and extracted its core through the sticky blood.

‘I survived. Again.’

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
