“Since you won’t listen to me anyway, let the governor make it clear. If this happens again, heads will roll. What’s the big deal if I kill someone here? I have nothing to lose, reputation-wise.”

Her words, spoken in earnest, struck more terror into the people around her.

“Say whatever you have to say to my face, don’t do this cowardly stuff behind my back. It’s disgusting. Ah, I guess asking the governor is pointless since he’s no different from them.”

She wouldn’t have been this furious if they had targeted her from the beginning.

“Let’s go, Lia.”

Having said all she had to say, she turned around only to freeze upon spotting Shuher and Demil not far away.

Of all the people, she least wanted to show herself in this state to them.

‘You must be the same.’

Surely, they would be laughing at her. Or perhaps, this was the situation they had hoped for.

She felt utterly humiliated, being scorned in front of everyone.

As Shuher and Demil approached, everyone bowed their heads in a stark contrast to their behavior when she was present. It filled Evenel with a wretched emotion.

She had known from the beginning. Shuher wouldn’t do anything; he would only save his own skin.

‘I knew that, yet chose to stay. Now that it has happened, it’s truly horrible.’

At this moment, Shuher would only be concerned about one thing.

So she spoke calmly to the two approaching men.

“Don’t worry. The subjugation will proceed as planned.”

With that, she walked past them with Lia. Nobody tried to stop her or speak to her.

Shuher, too, only watched her receding figure. Yet his eyes held neither the joy, the satisfaction, nor the mockery that Evenel had anticipated.

Back in the room, Lia was busy worrying about the drenched Evenel.

“You should go to the bathroom and get cleaned up, miss. You might catch a cold.”

Evenel tightly gripped her flustered hand.

“I’m sorry, Lia. I should have noticed sooner. I was so focused on my own issues that I didn’t pay attention to you. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Lia must have been terrified, too, thinking about how she had tried to pretend to be fine for her own sake, and her heart felt like it would tear apart.

Tears had unexpectedly filled Lia’s eyes at Evenel’s sincere apology. As the events of the past few days came to mind, she was overcome with sorrow seeing Evenel, who had gotten into this mess trying to save her.

“I’m really fine.”

“Fine? Your hands are so injured within just a few days. How long were you planning to hide it?”

Her hands were so cold and swollen, as if she had been doing laundry just moments ago.

“It’s my fault that this happened because I’m weak.”

“Don’t say that, miss. I know how hard you try.”

Others might not have paid attention, but Lia knew. She woke up earlier than anyone to train, and she was the last to go to bed, staying up late to read books.

Even in the midst of all that, she was always concerned about her. So, the harassment was not hard on her at all.

“You stood up for me just now, didn’t you? That’s enough for me. So, go wash up. There’s something very important tomorrow.”

“Alright.”

Evenel went into the bathroom, washed her soiled body, and changed her clothes. However, her anger still lingered in a corner of her mind.

“I apologize, Your Majesty, for causing this commotion.”

Shuher simply looked at the bowed Emil. He had unintentionally seen everything that had happened.

From Evenel rescuing Lia without hesitation, to receiving everyone’s ridicule and showing anger.

It was the second time she had been so angry, and both times had been for Lia, a maid.

“Why are you apologizing when you did as I ordered?”

Emil had only followed Shuher’s order to watch; strictly speaking, he had done nothing wrong.

“Is it because of that request the woman made?”

“Yes… after all, breaking the promise is a fact.”

Emil found it hard to lift his head in front of Evenel, whose face appeared before him as she had sincerely thanked him.

“Furthermore, strictly speaking, Your Majesty told me to watch Evenel.”

Lia had merely needed to keep watch, but her personal feelings had taken precedence.

“As a chamberlain, I wasn’t rational. Causing such a fuss in the palace is akin to tarnishing your reputation.”

Shuher slowly opened his mouth after listening to Emil’s words.

“Expel all the servants involved in this matter. And… from now on, have Lia solely attend to that woman.”
The decision regarding the servants was one thing, but the final command seemed as if it were a consideration for Evenel. Nonetheless, Emil bowed his waist, setting aside his question.

“Yes, Your Majesty. I will take swift action.”

Left alone, Shuher recalled the image of Evenel drifting away in disarray.

It had been the situation he so fervently desired—her being mocked in front of everyone and feeling her own powerlessness.

Yet, oddly, he wasn’t pleased. It wasn’t as satisfying as he’d thought.

‘Even in such a situation, she brings up the matter of the expedition.’

In fact, he had expected Evenel to protest strongly on the spot, perhaps to punish the maids who had caused trouble.

However, she hadn’t said a word on the matter and had left the room first.

This was completely opposite to the way she had unhesitatingly approached him when asking about things she didn’t know.

Around the time when he was puzzled as to why she didn’t do so while caring for that maid as if her life depended on it, a phrase she had once said in the library suddenly came to Shuher’s mind.

[“It seems like the one who is deluded is you, Your Majesty.”]

“Deluded, you say….”

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
