And when the story of how things started to go wrong with Aodin came up, unlike before, her hand that was turning the pages stopped for a moment.

But showing a slight tremble, she turned to the next chapter.

How much time had passed, Evenel, who had finished reading the book, picked up another one as if bewitched.

She leaned against the bookshelf and began to read. During that time, she didn’t take her eyes off the book, nor did she utter a single word.

The only sound was the flipping of pages, as if time had stopped in this library alone.

Evenel remained focused solely on the book, even as the sun set and night came. Around her, the books she had read were scattered messily.

Perhaps, like her mind.

Only after closing the last book did her mouth open.

“What is this…….”

What followed was a laughter filled with despair. But it didn’t last long before it weakened and died down.

“I didn’t even have the right to be angry in the first place.”

One of the reasons Evenel decided to stay in Karies was that she felt justified. There had been such an incident in the past, but after all, she hadn’t done anything wrong directly.

She had been angry at being the target of blame just for being a person of Aodin.

But the history between Karies and Aodin was more brutal than she thought. What she knew was just the tip of the iceberg.

Her heart was racing just reading the description of the situation at that time; it must have been even more horrifying in reality.

How many people died from Aodin’s betrayal, how much damage was done, and how ignoble Aodin was to the end.

It resonated more vividly because it was written from the perspective of the Karies Empire.

The bloody tragedy that Shuher mentioned before was also detailed. It was as if she could hear their screams.

‘I knew this would happen.’

Evenel’s intuition was spot on that there would be nothing good to see. This was Pandora’s box. It should never have been opened.

“I shouldn’t have looked.”

But even so, she couldn’t stop reading halfway. Ironically, she had to know this to be in Karies.

‘Can I really endure it here?’

Uncharacteristically, she had a weak thought. If she had known this cruel truth earlier, she would have escaped from this place even if it meant risking her life.

To all the people of Karies, she was no different from an enemy. No, that was an understatement. They had lost family, friends, comrades, lovers, and hometown because of Aodin’s greed and betrayal.

She had no choice but to agree even when they shouted for her to die.

‘Maybe I would have done the same in their situation.’

Then, black shoes entered Evenel’s field of vision, lost in deep thought. Slowly raising her head, Shuher was looking down at her, having been there for who knows how long.

(This is a time separator.)

“Young Lady Evenel.”

As soon as he returned to the palace, Shuher asked Emil about Evenel’s whereabouts. She was practically in charge of watching Evenel.

“She has been in the library since noon.”

“The library? All day long?”

“Yes, she said she didn’t even need a meal.”
Entering the library wasn’t a problem in itself. The only thing puzzling was why he had gone there.

Shuher was about to return to his room when he spotted a light seeping through the crack in the door from afar. It seemed Emil was still in the library, just as he had said.

He turned his steps toward the library and immediately found Evenel, leaning on the bookshelf and sitting down.

But she was sitting blankly, unaware of his entrance, like a person who had lost her soul.

As Shuher approached, Evenel belatedly recognized his presence and stood up from her seat.

“Your Majesty, how are you here?”

“I think that’s what I should be asking you. Why are you still here at this late hour?”

“What?”

At his words, Evenel checked outside the window and was surprised to find that it had already become night. Uncharacteristically, she had even forgotten about target practice.

“It’s already this late.”

Shuher quickly sensed a change in the atmosphere from the morning.

“Emil said you didn’t even eat.”

“Me? I’m fine.”

Evenel didn’t remember Emil speaking to her or her replying, as she was too engrossed in the book. Of course, she had no appetite.

She had read a rather bloody passage, not enough to calmly eat her meal.

Soon, Shuher’s gaze was drawn to the books haphazardly strewn at her feet. He picked one up and checked the title.

“This.”

Upon further inspection, all the books were related to the history of Karies.

‘So that’s why she reacted like this.’

From his perspective, it was merely amusing. She had not discovered something she hadn’t known before.

“Why are you suddenly reading this?”

“Just because…….”

That was all Evenel could respond.

Her head was filled with various thoughts, and she didn’t know what to say to the emperor of Karies.

Shuher did not hide his cynical expression at her confused answer.

“Looking at your face, it seems you were quite shocked.”

“It’s the first time I’ve seen it written so blatantly.”

“That makes sense. In Aodin, they would hide their faults and brag about how great their abilities were.”

If she had only been exposed to history as narrated from Aodin’s perspective, her surprise was not unreasonable.

“I’m curious about your thoughts. You must have come facetoface with the deeds committed by your family and country.”

Evenel had no response she could make other than tightly gripping her hands.

When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman

“I’ve given birth to two children for you, yet you still think about him.

Was I nothing but his substitute to you from beginning to end?”
