Hye Ju opened her eyes at a local hospital.

“Ah….”

Startled by the unfamiliar surroundings, Hye Ju shot upright—only to feel a sudden, sharp throb in her head.

White ceiling, stiff bed, the sharp scent of antiseptic pricking her nose….

It didn’t take long for her to realize she was in a hospital. Relieved it wasn’t a dangerous place, Hye Ju lowered her aching head back onto the pillow.

‘What on earth happened?’

Her arms felt prickly hot. When she lifted them, she saw thick layers of gauze wrapped around them—burn dressings. The burns weren’t severe, but small ember marks dotted her skin.

Her forehead felt heavy. Feeling it, she found a bandage stuck there. A light touch sent a dull ache through it, like a bruise.

‘Now that I think about it… I was being chased by Ms. Do earlier.’

Hye Ju gazed out the window, where twilight was settling in, trying to piece together what had happened.

She’d witnessed Ms. Do conspiring with the shaman and immediately grabbed the jar, bolting out of the shrine.

She’d jumped into the car driven by Philip, who’d been waiting nearby.

“Step on it! Press harder! She’s right on our tail!”

Ms. Do was hotly pursuing Philip’s clunker, screaming with a terrifying, twisted expression.
