Hye Ju frantically hailed a taxi.

At past two in the morning, a taxi was the only way to get to Seoul.

“Mister, please go as fast as you can. It’s urgent!”

Hearing Joo Won panting breathlessly over the phone—too breathless even to properly answer her question about what had happened—she couldn’t just stand there doing nothing.

Grabbing only her wallet in a hurry, Hye Ju got into the taxi and focused intently on Joo Won’s breathing coming through the receiver.

“Oppa, are you okay?”

As if finally calming down a bit, Joo Won replied briefly.

—Yeah.

But it was completely obvious he was anything but okay. Joo Won let out another uneven breath.

—I’m sorry. You were the only person I could think of.

Hye Ju’s chest tightened painfully. She felt guilty for having enjoyed herself carefree all this time, unaware of how much he was suffering.

Trying her best to stay calm, Hye Ju reassured him.

“I’m on my way now.”

—I’m fine now.

“Fine? With a voice like you’re about to die? I’ve gotten into a taxi, so I’ll see you in about an hour and a half.”
