Joo Won lay sprawled on his bed, glaring at his phone.

“Oh Hye Ju, did you even get home? Why haven’t you contacted me?”

Ever since he saw Hye Ju disappear with that strange man earlier, he’d been stuck like this. All the way home, he’d agonized over whether or not to call—only to end up doing nothing at all.

The usual Joo Won wouldn’t be this anxious over a simple phone call. But now that he was stuck in the humiliating position of waiting for an answer after confessing his feelings, it was impossible not to feel small.

“What should I even say?”

Joo Won glared at his unresponsive phone, then abruptly rolled over and started racking his brain intensely.

[What are you up to?]

“Hmm, that sounds kind of desperate.”

[Are you home yet?]

“That’s way too out of context.”

Tap tap tap tap tap. Deleted.

His expression was utterly serious as he kept typing and deleting messages on the blank screen. His head felt ready to split from overthinking how to craft a text that would sound elegant, refined, and effortlessly cool.

[Did you head straight home after work?]

“No, that sounds way too much like an interrogation.”
