Seung Won sat in front of his monitor, his eyes bloodshot.

His hair was a tangled mess, and his cheeks were sunken. Empty takeout containers piled up beside his keyboard, along with three cups of iced Americano, all long since melted.

He’d holed himself up for three straight days—two nights and three days—ever since bolting from the office on Friday. He’d deliberately chosen a nearby motel, fearing people might keep showing up at his apartment. It was a place he often stayed at because of its good computer specs.

“Ugh, lost again.”

He’d just lost four consecutive matches in his favorite role-playing game. For someone whose skill had once been good enough to dream of becoming a pro gamer, this was utterly unacceptable.

“Man… seriously pissing me off.”

Seung Won shot the monitor a glare and irritably shut down his computer. Normally, he’d be so absorbed in gaming that he wouldn’t even notice if someone carried him off—but today, his mind kept wandering.

Outside the window, it was already pitch black. Seeing the streetlamp’s glow reflected on the small window pane, Seung Won let out a heavy sigh, his heart restless.

“Monday again tomorrow.”

Just thinking about heading into work in the morning made his breath catch in his throat. Since storming out of the office Friday morning—right after news of his secret relationship with Da Hee got exposed—he’d kept his phone off and buried himself in games ever since. Now, looking back, it hadn’t even been worth such an overreaction.

“If only I’d played it cool and acted like it was no big deal—it would’ve felt way more natural.”

He’d fled like someone who’d just had a shameful secret exposed. Of course, people would be talking. In a small company like theirs, the gossip would be relentless. Just thinking about it made him dizzy.

“God, this is driving me crazy…”

The moment he stepped away from the game, reality loomed right in front of him. Seung Won leaned back in his chair, sighed deeply several times, and finally turned on his long-silent phone.

Ding, ding, ding.
