“I’m fine. The doctor said it’s a mild concussion. If I rest well, I’ll get better. I was just sleeping.”
Phew.
Hyeju breathed a sigh of relief. Philip felt moved for no reason looking at her tear-streaked face.
‘Well, she does worry about me, even though I’m not really family.’
Well, Hyeju had always been like that.
Every time they met, she would get angry, but she wouldn’t see where he got hit. She would complain, but she would still give him allowance.
She was the one who scolded him to stop acting like a delinquent and get his act together.
“But don’t cry over me. It’s embarrassing.”
Philip chuckled, scratching the back of his head.
“By the way, I just heard a really sweet thing. You’ll give me a lot of allowance…”

“Is that really important now, you blockhead!”
Once again, her hand rose in a flash, and Philip blocked it.
“Alright, alright! I promise I’ll give you the promised 50,000 won. Got it?”
Even in the midst of this, he was talking about money. The bandage wrapped around his head was regrettable, this blockhead.
“But what the heck happened?”
“In short, the situation is a bit complicated. I had something I needed to find, and it led to this while I was looking for it.”
“It looked quite dangerous earlier, didn’t it?”
“You made it dangerous by driving. Now come down, what is that?”
“I said it’s a wardrobe license. A cabinet license, you know?”
“Is that even a word in the world?”
“A wardrobe isn’t a cabinet?”

…Let’s stop talking.
“Oh, by the way, where’s my recorder?”
As if Hyeju suddenly remembered, she reached out her hand. Philip rummaged through his pocket and handed her the recorder he brought from the car.
“Here it is.”
Hyeju first checked if the recording file was intact.
Fortunately, the recording was fine. Since she recorded it between visits, the voices weren’t entirely clear, but she could grasp the overall nuance.
“Don’t tell Dad and Mom.”
“Am I a fool?”
Philip, who believed firmly that he was not a fool, said in a serious tone.
“I don’t know what’s going on, but don’t do dangerous things. Don’t worry Uncle for no reason.”

“It’s unusual for you to say that.”
“You cry too if I get hurt. It’s natural for me to worry too.”
Wow…
This wasn’t right, but my nose felt tingly. Hyeju took out her wallet, trying not to let her reddened eyes show.
“Here, fifty thousand won.”
“No danger bonus?”
“This is for real, ta-da!”
The quietly accumulating emotion rushed out like a tide.
Flicking her elbow as a habit, Hyeju, who was glaring at Philip, took out one more fifty-thousand-won bill.
“There you go. Because you got out of it safely thanks to me.”

“Oh, as expected of my big sister!”
Philip cheered, giving a thumbs-up. While Hyeju was gracefully glancing at him, the door suddenly opened without a knock.
“Hyeju!”
Both Philip and Hyeju’s heads turned simultaneously.
“Kang Seungwon…?”
Hyeju asked in surprise. Seungwon walked briskly and grabbed Hyeju’s shoulders.
“Hyeju, what happened to you? Are you okay?”
“How did you get here?”
“Is that important right now?”
While making a fuss over a few bandages, Hyeju felt embarrassed.

“Sis, I’ll leave first.”
Checking the situation, Philip quietly disappeared.
Now, only the two of them remained in the hospital room.
[Star icon]Seungwon heard about Hyeju’s accident about 30 minutes before finishing work.
Finishing the work requested by the business team, Seungwon found Hyeju’s seat, only to learn this morning that Hyeju had urgently taken a day off.
‘Hyeju took a day off? The one who used to come to work even if she was crawling with a hangover?’
Puzzled, he tilted his head and, after about thirty times of contemplation, decided to call Hyeju.
Until then, he couldn’t even consider the thought that Hyeju might have been in a traffic accident.
But he couldn’t help but be surprised by the voice of a man coming from the handset.

The one who answered the phone was Philip.
[Dash] “You’re at the hospital? Hyeju, where does it hurt? Which hospital are you in?”
Surprised, Seungwon asked, and Philip answered with a sleepy voice.
[Dash] “Are you from the company?” [Dash] “…Yes, I’m a friend.” [Dash] “Ah, this is Hansol Hospital. I’ll hang up then.”Annoyed by the grumbling tone, Seungwon, who couldn’t suppress his concern, immediately turned off his laptop and rushed to the hospital.
Throughout the journey, he was worried to the point of going crazy.

‘Did she get into an accident? Gastritis? Or did her drinking problem get worse? She mentioned that Oh Hyeju’s digestive system wasn’t good, but it shouldn’t be a big deal, right?’
Various thoughts swirled in his mind, and it felt like his head was about to explode.
“Hyeju, are you okay? What happened to your arm?”
Seungwon grabbed Hyeju’s arm and examined it from various angles.
Feeling uncomfortable with his concern, Hyeju gently removed his hand from her arm.
“It’s nothing much. I shouldn’t have come to the hospital for something minor like this. It’s embarrassing.”
“You used a sick day because of this? You should’ve told me.”
With a pitiful look, Seungwon stroked the wound.
The eyes of a man who was neither a friend nor a colleague at work.
Since learning about his feelings, she couldn’t look directly into his eyes.

Knowing how he looked at her, she couldn’t be at ease. Awkwardly smiling, Hyeju stood up.
“I’m really fine. I’m going to be discharged now, so it was unnecessary to bother you and come to the hospital.”
“Where are you going?”
“I was going to ask the nurse if I could go home.”
“I’ll ask and come back.”
“No, there’s no need for that.”
Hyeju opposed the idea of Seungwon leaving the hospital right away.
Seeing Hyeju, who had stood up to leave the room, Seungwon’s expression became cloudy.
“Is it uncomfortable for me to be here?”
“If it’s not uncomfortable, I think it’s more of a courtesy for your feelings. If you came for work, talk about work and then go back.”

“I came because of work?”
A wave of incomprehensible emotions hit Seungwon’s chest.
He didn’t know what to do.
The belatedly realized emotions were too overwhelming, deep, and painful.
Even though she should let him go after becoming his sister, lingering feelings entangled her ankles.
She couldn’t stop glancing at his place, and at night, it was unbearable to endure without drinking.
The only thing his lingering feelings hoped for was time.
She had spent ten years with him. It wasn’t much compared to the few months with Juwon, but there was only one thing he could wager on.
“Don’t avoid me, Hyeju.”
He hugged Hyeju from behind.

A dark voice flowed into Hyeju’s ears, which had stiffened in surprise.
“I’m so sad and crazy…”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
