Early in the morning, having finished getting ready for work, Chae Won stood not by the elevator but in front of Yoo Gun’s apartment door.

His phone was turned off, so she rang the doorbell and even knocked—but no sound came from inside.

“Mr. Choi Yoo Gun!”

BANG BANG BANG! Chae Won knocked harder on the door.

Hee Joo, watching from behind, tilted her head with a puzzled look.

“I clearly heard he was released because his alibi checked out for a different location at the same time, so it seems he really didn’t come home.”

Turning toward Hee Joo at those words, Chae Won let out a quiet sigh.

“If he’s out, he should’ve called me right away. What’s going on?”

“He was probably released in the early hours after being interrogated all night, so calling might’ve been tough. He’s probably sleeping deeply right now, don’t you think?”

Chae Won glanced once more at his apartment.

Though it was possible he was genuinely asleep and that’s why there was no reply—as Hee Joo suggested—Chae Won still felt a little hurt, having stayed awake all night waiting for his call.

“But still, it’s a relief he wasn’t the one driving, Chae Won. Honestly, I was really worried too.”

Although Yoo Gun’s credit card records placed him not far from the crime scene—necessitating further clarification—the police had informed them this morning that someone else might have been driving Yoo Gun’s car.

Afraid Chae Won might receive devastating news, Hee Joo immediately called her with a cheerful face as soon as the call ended.

But Chae Won, who’d already firmly believed this would be the outcome, instead seemed disappointed by her unringing phone.
