“The food here is pretty good too!”

Young Ja carefully broke the silence that had grown especially heavy.

“I think Hee Joo unnie’s kimchi stew is the tastiest. I guess I won’t get to eat it anymore once you two divorce, right?”

Jenny, completely oblivious, chimed in, prompting Young Ja to pinch her thigh discreetly as a signal to be quiet.

“Oh, so you two are getting divorced… I must’ve been really clueless to barge in like this, given the mood.”

Rona feigned complete ignorance, acting as if she’d had no idea at all.

“You really are clueless in every possible way.”

“Huh?”

Chae Won gave a light laugh as she looked at Rona, who seemed flustered.

“It’s just a joke. The atmosphere was getting too stiff, so I thought I’d lighten things up.”

Seeing Rona’s clearly irritated expression, Young Ja rolled her eyes awkwardly and quickly tried to comfort her.

“Why would you joke about something like that? Um, Jae Min’s friend, eat more. I’m full already, so go ahead and have mine too.”

Though she’d abruptly shifted from the warm “Rona-ya” to the distant “Jae Min’s friend,” Rona’s heart softened slightly at the gesture of care meant just for her.

“Thank you, Mother.”

As Rona put a piece of steak in her mouth, she watched Hee Joo’s slow movements right across from her.
