Breaking Matchmaking (5 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 15
Early that morning, Jae Min left his house and entered the neighborhood where Rona lived.
After parking beneath a small three-story villa, Jae Min hummed a tune as he climbed the stairs, and the black sedan trailing him stopped at a spot with a clear view of the villa entrance.
Chae Won lowered her vigorously clicking camera and said,
“We don’t know for sure if this is that woman’s home or if she’s just living separately—but the fact that he tried to divorce cleanly while hiding all this is absolutely infuriating.”
Yu Gun, his hands resting on the steering wheel, leaned his head back against the headrest.
“How did you find out that No Jae Min was having an affair?”
“Ho Tae’s dog gave it away.”
At Chae Won’s words, Yu Gun pictured the little bulldog.
Ho Tae sometimes brought it to the main house, and around this time last year, during a family gathering, that dog had chewed up a briefcase Yu Gun had set on the floor.
Whether it was Ho Tae stealing his car and wrecking it or his pet tearing up his briefcase, anytime Yu Gun had anything to do with Ho Tae, there was never a good memory—his brow twitched faintly.
“I understand the situation, but it still seems risky—you pretending to be her older sister.”
If he ever found out, that man wouldn’t just let it go.
After all, no matter how identical your face is, you’re not Kim Hee Joo.
A man who already has a mistress wouldn’t possibly keep accepting Chae Won, who’s been impersonating Hee Joo on weekends and dragging things out, as if it were natural.
“Are you worried about me right now?”
“Maybe.”
Caught off guard by an answer that didn’t match what she expected, Chae Won turned to look at Yu Gun’s profile.
Seeing his expression—clearly not joking—she slowly turned back forward and let her gaze drop halfway.
“I can’t just stand by and let my sister’s life end up so unjustly and tragically. You still have your grandmother and Ho Tae—but I only have her now.”
But then again…
Why is Ho Tae going inside?
“I guess the matchmaking info included family details too. Looks like my parents were left out.”
“Oh, about that…”
Chae Won looked at Yu Gun cautiously.
Losing one’s parents was always a heavy topic, regardless of how it happened—but in his case, it was especially difficult to bring up because his parents and younger sister had died in an extremely well-known accident.
A crashed airplane had carried his family along with countless other Koreans.
“I’m sorry.”
His already blank expression grew even more distant as his eyelashes lowered further.
Deciding it was better to simply share how she truly felt than offer clumsy comfort, Chae Won spoke again.
“It really hit out of nowhere. When you lose your precious family overnight, you’re overwhelmed by emptiness, despair, and pain all at once—it hits so hard you can’t even tell if you’re hurting properly.”
Keeping her eyes fixed on the villa entrance, Chae Won continued.
“So be good to the family you still have. You’ve still got your grandmother and Ho Tae.”
“If you already know I’m not close with him, stop dragging Ho Tae into this. I wouldn’t talk about you to him even if you didn’t test me like that.”
Caught with her true intention exposed, Chae Won quickly looked away.
“It’s just… in case. Consider it a reminder to please be careful and keep today’s events absolutely secret.”
While they were speaking, Jae Min appeared with a woman.
Startled, Chae Won hastily raised her camera.
Click! Click!
Taking several photos of the affectionate pair walking out, arms linked and smiling, Chae Won slowly lowered her camera.
“It’s kind of disappointing.”
Yu Gun, who had been watching with indifferent eyes, turned toward Chae Won’s murmuring.
“That woman… she’s so underwhelming compared to my sister. It just feels hollow.”
She didn’t usually judge people by appearances, but when she’d heard No Jae Min was cheating, she’d assumed his mistress must be some extraordinary beauty.
Average height, average face, average clothing—nothing about that utterly unremarkable woman made Chae Won understand why No Jae Min would abandon Hee Joo for her.
She’d come here fully prepared, expecting someone truly exceptional—but in her eyes, this woman was even worse than Hee Joo, which made it all the more infuriating.
But why wasn’t Choi Yu Gun saying anything? Did that mean he thought she was wrong?
“Choi Yu Gun, why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t tell me… from a man’s perspective, that woman looks better than me—or better than my sister?”
Only then did Yu Gun carefully examine the woman beside Jae Min, as if evaluating her.
“You can only compare if there’s something worth comparing.”
Meaning there wasn’t even a basis for comparison.

As if the very question were meaningless and bothersome.
Choi Yu Gun had this strange ability—despite his utterly expressionless face—to make someone’s heart flutter inexplicably.
Chae Won, who’d been watching him, gradually softened and faced forward again.
“You really do have exceptional judgment when it comes to people, Choi Yu Gun.”
As they watched Jae Min and Rona get into their car, Yu Gun’s phone chimed with a message.
[You’re not in the office today, sir? We’ve gathered to finalize our concept.]It was a message from a team member who remembered Yu Gun usually came to the office even on weekends when important deadlines loomed.
It was also their way of showing they’d taken the initiative to gather and work diligently, even on a weekend.
Normally, Yu Gun would’ve been buried in the office ahead of an important schedule, but now he stared thoughtfully at Chae Won, who held binoculars.
Resting his chin on his arm draped over the steering wheel, Yu Gun quickly typed a reply.
[Proceed under Manager Ko’s supervision and head home early.]After adding one more message about arranging meals and snacks for the team, Yu Gun put his phone down.
“Let’s go, let’s go!”
Chae Won nudged Yu Gun’s shoulder.
The only person who didn’t know just how busy Yu Gun was was Madam Kim Bok Rae—and now, her granddaughter Kim Chae Won, who followed him around as if she were his heir.
“Hurry up.”
Because she was in a rush, she even slapped his shoulder and spoke informally.
What am I even doing here, waking up early just to take one couple photo?
Though many thoughts crossed his mind, Yu Gun pressed the accelerator as Chae Won instructed.
“Don’t lose them!”
Once she set her sights on a target, she’d never failed to catch it—not once.
“You absolutely can’t!”
“At least put on your seatbelt.”
Which meant, of course, that this time wouldn’t be any different.
Yu Gun stuck close behind the speeding car ahead.

The two entered a large leisure-shopping complex, had a drink each, then headed toward the clothing section.
Chae Won had assumed they were going shopping, but their steps naturally led them into a famous children’s clothing store.
“Why are they going in there…?”
Chae Won wrapped a scarf tightly around her face and looped her arm through Yu Gun’s.
“Let’s get closer too!”
Helplessly dragged along by Chae Won’s combative enthusiasm, Yu Gun entered the children’s store with her, playing along as a couple.
“Welcome!”
Greeted by staff, Chae Won kept her arm linked with Yu Gun’s as she moved as close to Jae Min as possible.
“Kyaa! This vest is too cute, honey! Right?”
“Yeah. Our little Kongal would look adorable in it.”
Kongal?
Chae Won pretended to brush dust off Yu Gun’s clothes while pondering.
While furiously dusting his jacket, still hoping it wasn’t true, Rona suddenly said,
“When our Kongari is born, I want to dress him in this, Jae Min! Buy it for me!”
“Sure! Pick out anything else you want too!”
Ah…!
Chae Won, who had been brushing Yu Gun’s clothes affectionately, now gripped the fabric as if grabbing his collar.
It was the exact moment her worst suspicion was confirmed as fact.
Just then, Yu Gun leaned close to Chae Won’s ear and whispered,
“I get why you’re doing this, but could you let go? It looks really weird to anyone watching.”
Flustered, Chae Won immediately loosened her grip.
A nearby salesperson, who had been ready to assist at any moment, now stood at a polite distance with a strange expression.
“Oh, just kidding around! Haha.”
Chae Won smiled at the salesperson as if she were playfully teasing her boyfriend.

Fortunately, the salesperson smiled back.
As soon as Chae Won turned away, her smile vanished instantly.
“So she’s pregnant… that’s what this means.”
He’d hidden not only his mistress but also the baby.
And he’d tried to divorce so easily—offering just a nearly empty bank account and a small golden frog as compensation.
Remembering the image of Young Ja and Jae Min together, Chae Won let out a bitter laugh.
Still stunned, her lips pressed tightly together, the salesperson finally approached them cheerfully.
“Is it a boy or a girl?”
Chae Won turned with a bright smile.
“A boy.”
“A girl.”
Their voices came at the same time—and with completely opposite answers—making Chae Won stiffen immediately.
After a brief silent exchange of glances with Yu Gun, Chae Won turned back to the salesperson.
“A boy.”
“A girl.”
Again, they spoke simultaneously.
Biting her lip, Chae Won shot Yu Gun a sharp look.
She’d thought their silent communication had worked perfectly just now—but apparently, it hadn’t gotten through at all.
Worse, Choi Yu Gun stubbornly repeated the exact same answer.
“No, do you really prefer a daughter? Why do you keep saying daughter?”
Yu Gun, who thought boys and girls were equally fine,
and Chae Won, who thought he should’ve just agreed with her and said “son,”
and Yu Gun, who actually thought having a daughter first might be even nicer.
Watching these two suddenly debate family planning, the salesperson spoke carefully,
“Um, I was just—”
Only then did Chae Won recognize the salesperson’s expression and snapped her mouth shut, taking a breath.
“It’s a gift for an acquaintance—we don’t actually know the gender.”
At Yu Gun’s explanation, the salesperson finally nodded with an “Ah!” and smiled understandingly.
Chae Won subtly glanced back, keeping Jae Min and Rona in her awareness.
Standing in front of the baby sock display, they were giggling happily together.
“If you don’t know the gender, you could safely go with yellow or white. Let me recommend a few options.”
At the salesperson’s suggestion, two baby outfits were laid out before them.
Tiny sizes, adorned with cute bear characters.
Unlike Chae Won, who kept glancing back, Yu Gun inspected the baby clothes with genuine seriousness.
“Honey, it’s almost movie time! Hurry up and pay.”
Seeing the couple prepare to leave after paying, Chae Won elbowed Yu Gun’s side repeatedly.
Yu Gun, who had been earnestly examining baby clothes, slowly turned his head.
“We’ll come back next time!”
Chae Won gave the helpful salesperson a bright smile, then dragged the slow-moving Yu Gun outside.
“Why were you inspecting baby clothes so thoroughly for no reason?”
“I was just looking—they’re cute, that’s all.”
As Jae Min headed toward the cinema, he suddenly stopped, gently removed something from Rona’s eye, and smiled.
Chae Won, following behind, casually brushed past and once again dusted off Yu Gun’s clothes with her hand.
Just as Yu Gun began wondering if his clothes might end up with holes, Chae Won pulled out her compact to confirm the couple behind them.
The two were whispering to each other and laughing giddily.
Chae Won’s sharp gaze through the mirror met Jae Min’s eyes.
Startled, Chae Won snapped her compact shut and stepped directly in front of Yu Gun.
“I think he saw me.”
“Over here.”
At Yu Gun’s words, Chae Won panicked and pulled her scarf up higher.

While she stood frozen, unsure what to do, Yu Gun suddenly pulled her tightly against him as if embracing her.
With one hand cradling the back of her head, he held her close while subtly watching Jae Min pass by.
Among the crowd, Jae Min briefly glanced up at Yu Gun—noticeably tall and standing out—then immediately turned toward Rona with an indifferent look.
“Honey! There’s an elevator straight to the cinema over there. Let’s take it!”
“Okay!”
Jae Min guided Rona past them, and the expressionless Yu Gun simply looked down at Chae Won still pressed against him.
She was holding her breath, pressed flush against him.
He could’ve just told her it was over—but her small head, fitting perfectly in his palm, fascinated him for a moment.
“They’re gone?”
She squirmed slightly in his arms.
Any second now, she might lift her head and meet his eyes.
And honestly, that didn’t seem like such a bad idea.
Slowly, Yu Gun spoke.
“Not yet.”
She pressed even closer.
Just as he’d expected.
Male lead is a Divorced Husband
She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.
After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.
She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.
But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…
Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!
――
This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
