Breaking Matchmaking (5 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 13
Chae Won and Yoo Gun sat across from each other with the table between them.
While Yoo Gun listened to the whole story, the food had been served, yet neither of them reached for their utensils.
“I’ve got a good idea.”
Chae Won clicked her fingers to make a sound.
“We’ll book another room. We can just snap photos carelessly anyway, so we’ll get an extra room for the night!”
“It’s a hotel run by my uncle, unfortunately.”
“Oh.”
Unable to come up with any other solution, Chae Won murmured.
“Your grandmother’s sharper than I expected.”
“That means we need to be just as sharp.”
It was his uncle’s hotel—if they acted recklessly and got exposed as fakes, ruining his plans, Yoo Gun certainly wouldn’t stay quiet.
After thinking a bit longer, Chae Won quickly straightened her posture.
“You said the 29th, right?”
Yoo Gun gave a light nod.
“I’ll clear my schedule—let’s do it that day. A staycation.”
“You’re deciding faster than I thought?”
“I don’t really have a choice, do I?”
Yoo Gun, sitting across from her, replied in a flat tone.
“No, you don’t.”
Chae Won, lips pressed together as she stared at him, picked up the fork right in front of her.
“Just a heads-up—don’t even think about anything weird. We have a strictly transactional relationship, and I’m giving up my precious vacation to help you, Yoo Gun.”
She poked at the salad in front of her with the fork and continued.
“But there’s one problem. Even if it’s supposed to be easy time between lovers, my reputation as an innocent person who’s never hung out with a guy in a hotel like that would take a hit. How will you compensate me for that damaged image?”
“I’ll keep quiet about your sister’s situation, as I always have.”
His expression looked utterly merciless, and his low voice sounded threatening no matter what he said.
No matter how he spoke, this man always gave off a strange vibe.
“Yes, that’s right. I wasn’t really asking for anything specific anyway.”
Chae Won, reluctantly backing down, popped a cherry tomato—she’d stabbed firmly with her fork—into her mouth.
She’d made the huge decision to spend the night together, yet his attitude was incredibly arrogant.
But since he held her weakness over her, Chae Won could only silently chew the tomato.
“You always say grace before meals—I guess you’re taking a break from that today?”
Chae Won, who had been grumbling discontentedly, instantly stopped.
After blinking a couple of times, she slowly turned her eyes toward him.
“…It’s just vegetables.”
“Oh, because it’s vegetables?”
“You drink water or stuff like that without praying when you’re thirsty, right? It’s the same idea.”
“What a unique religion.”
I thought I’d see him once and that’d be it.
If I’d known we’d be meeting for a whole month, I never would’ve started with this “crazy” persona.
“Yes. It’s an incredibly sacred and faith-filled religion.”
“A religion that’s picky about food? I’m very curious—was it called Yalri God, or something like that?”
This man definitely knew and was just teasing her.
While she watched him with suspicion, Chae Won suddenly felt her phone vibrate and straightened up.
The number on the screen belonged to Hee Joo’s caregiver.
Could it be… had her sister woken up?
With a happy expression, Chae Won pressed the call button.
“Yes, this is me! Is my sister conscious?”
—Ah, no, not that. Sorry, but you should come to the hospital right away.
“…What?”
—Well… um…
Trending
Hearing nothing after that, Chae Won checked her phone and pressed it back to her ear.
“Hello? Hello?”
The call had been disconnected.
She tried calling back several times, but only an automated message saying the phone was turned off played.
Sensing something must have happened to Hee Joo, Chae Won stood up, her face pale.
“I—I need to go to the hospital.”
Chae Won hurriedly grabbed her bag and rushed out of the restaurant.
Please, Sister…
No, you wouldn’t just leave me like this, would you?
We’ve only just reunited—now you’re the only family I have left…
“Where’s my car… where did I park?”
Having blindly gone down to the underground parking lot, Chae Won clenched her trembling fingertips, struggling to regain composure.
No matter how much she pressed the car remote, it was impossible to tell where the sound was coming from in the vast parking lot.
Just as she decided to take a taxi instead and turned to run upstairs, she spotted her car beside a pillar.
Chae Won quickly walked over and opened the driver’s door.
Thud.
Someone grabbed her shoulder, making her turn around—Yoo Gun stood before her.
He seemed out of breath, as if he’d run after her.
“I’ll drive.”
“Excuse me, Yoo Gun, I need to leave right now—”
Yoo Gun pulled Chae Won’s arm and helped her into the passenger seat before returning to the driver’s side.
“We’ll go fast, so buckle up.”
How could he drive like this?
Even in her dazed state, his voice sounded clear and steady.
Chae Won fumbled in the air and barely managed to grab the seat belt.
“It’s Tae Sung University Hospital. Hurry—go as fast as you possibly can!”
Yoo Gun sped past anything he could and accelerated right before traffic signals changed.
At the one signal where he had to stop, Yoo Gun glanced at Chae Won’s face.
She kept her lips pressed together, trying to appear calm, but her hands trembled so much she had to grip them herself—a sight so pitiful it tugged at his heart.
Yoo Gun looked forward again and accelerated instantly as soon as the light turned green.

“What would be good for the baby? Let’s get some fruit… and oh, Rona loves sweets, so chocolate too!”
Jae Min, who had stopped by the supermarket, carefully picked out various items and filled his basket.
He’d gone on many dates at Rona’s place before, but since this was his first visit since learning about the baby, he wanted to bring lots of things.
Holding a cake in one hand and fruit and drinks for the baby in the other, Jae Min stood in front of Rona’s villa and rang the doorbell.
“Rona, it’s me!”
The door soon opened.
“Why’d you buy so much?”
“My hands weren’t enough—I had to buy for our baby too, heh.”
Jae Min stepped into her tiny, adorably decorated home.
“You haven’t eaten yet, right?”
“Nope. Jae Min, how’s the divorce going? Did you sign the papers yet?”
Rona grabbed Jae Min before he could even put down his bags and asked.
“Don’t worry, I think we’ll sign next week.”
“What?”
“Hee Joo said she’ll seriously think about it this week.”
Hearing the divorce was delayed yet another week, Rona’s expression instantly twisted.
“So you’re telling me to keep waiting again?”
Jae Min carefully set down the bags on the floor and straightened his posture.
“This is really the last time. Honestly, you should be able to wait just this much. You know how sensitive Hee Joo is.”

“What did you just say?”
“You can at least give her time to think. Before, she flat-out refused and said it was on hold, but now she’s actually considering it for the first time. Just wait a little longer—it’ll be finalized, I promise! Baby.”
What made her angry had completely changed.
“You know how sensitive Hee Joo is”?
His protective tone irritated Rona deeply.
“You still have feelings for that woman, don’t you? Huh? You idiot!”
Rona kicked the bags Jae Min had set down, sending fruit rolling everywhere. An apple he’d carefully chosen rolled among shoes, and Jae Min’s eyes widened in shock.
“Are you crazy?”
“You’re the crazy one! You’ve changed! If you still have feelings for her, just say it! Don’t ruin my life for nothing! I’ll just get rid of the baby and live like none of this ever happened!”
“What? Kongal’s right here—what are you saying!”
“This is useless! All of this is useless!”
Rona even threw the cake box from Jae Min’s hand onto the floor.
“Hey! Gorona!”
Jae Min shouted, his expression fierce.
“Do you even know what I need right now? Not this crap—divorce papers! My belly grows bigger every day. How long do you expect me to hide it? I’m a schoolteacher! Do you think parents and students will just stay quiet when an unmarried teacher starts showing? I’m dying of stress—why do you keep saying ‘one more week, one more week’!”
Jae Min wet his lower lip with his tongue and straightened up.
“How much bigger can your belly get in one week that you’re making such a fuss? Can’t you even wait a week? Do you think divorce is that easy? I’m doing everything I can—you have no idea, yet you’re getting all worked up!”
Seeing Jae Min’s unexpectedly furious expression for the first time, Rona blinked several times and made a pouting face.
“Are you… mad at me and Kongal right now? Is that it?”
“No, it’s not that I’m mad—”
“Oh, my belly!”
Rona clutched her stomach, though it didn’t actually hurt, and pretended to be in pain.
“What? What’s wrong?”
“Maybe it’s stress… oh, it hurts.”
“The hospital! No—call 119!”
“It’s fine! Forget it!”
“No! Our baby can’t get hurt!”
Rona barely managed to stop Jae Min from calling 119 and gradually toned down her act of clutching her stomach.
Seeing that he still cared deeply for her and the baby, she felt comforted, and her earlier anger slowly subsided.
But she couldn’t wait any longer.
“Baby, do you love me?”
“Of course! Do you have any idea how much I love you and our little Kongal!”
She remembered sharp-eyed Teacher Song’s recent comment about her gaining weight, and she knew she couldn’t keep lying about her growing belly if the divorce didn’t go through in another week.
“I love you so much too. So you absolutely must get that divorce. Got it?”
“Yes, yes—just trust me. I’ll definitely do it in a week!”
Though she nodded, Rona clenched her fists tightly, thinking she couldn’t just stand by and watch any longer.

“I’m so sorry—the caregiver said, ‘My second son got into an accident, and I urgently need to go home, but I can’t leave my post, so I called to ask if you could come. And of all times, my phone battery’s completely dead.’”
Though drained by the caregiver’s words, Chae Won still thought, “Thankfully, it’s fine.”
Hee Joo still hadn’t opened her eyes, but her heartbeat was steady—Chae Won was just grateful for that.
“Go ahead. They said it’s urgent.”
“I’m really sorry. I’ll be back on schedule tomorrow without any issues.”
After the caregiver left, Chae Won sighed deeply in relief.
Noticing Yoo Gun beside her, Chae Won slowly turned her head.
“Yoo Gun, your driving was impressive. I thought I was going to heaven with my sister today.”
“If you’d driven with those hands, you might have.”
She hadn’t realized it, but her fingertips were still trembling.
“Oh.”
Chae Won quickly clenched her hand.
Yoo Gun, who had been watching her, turned his gaze toward motionless Hee Joo.

They were twins, so their eye shapes were similar, though Hee Joo’s looked slightly different—perhaps because of the swelling.
Her fair skin seemed genetic; just like Chae Won’s, her face and the backs of her hands were unnaturally pale.
“I’ll tell my sister you’ve done us a favor once she wakes up.”
Chae Won pulled out a chair and sat down, wrapping Hee Joo’s hand between both of hers. She held it firmly, as if grasping something precious she’d nearly lost.
Though her voice was calm, her clasped hands revealed her desperation.
For a brief moment, Yoo Gun recalled losing a family member without ever getting to hold their hand like that.
“If I’ve done you a favor, you’ll have to repay it. Tell her she now has one more reason to wake up.”
Chae Won gave a faint smile at Yoo Gun’s words and turned to send him off first.
But just then, she remembered they hadn’t taken any photos and blurted, “Ah!”
“It’s not the restaurant, but how about we take a photo right now in the park behind here?”
Since the location didn’t really matter, Yoo Gun readily agreed.
“Sure.”
The two left the hospital and headed to a nearby park.
The whole way, Chae Won didn’t act cocky as usual and remained silent.
She’d clearly been deeply shaken in such a short time.
As evening began to fall, Chae Won stood under a suitable streetlamp and asked a passerby to take their photo.
“Today’s concept is just a straight-on look.”
Yoo Gun habitually glanced down at her hand from the moment they got in the car.
Thankfully, the trembling had stopped, though her hand still hung limply, pale beyond white.
Still watching her, Yoo Gun stared straight ahead and grasped her hand firmly.
“Yes. A straight-on look.”
Startled, her eyes snapped back to the front at the passerby’s count: “One, two, three!”
“Let me take another one for you.”
What expression had she just made?
Chae Won couldn’t pay attention to her expression as usual.
“One, two, three!”
All she noticed was the firm, warm feeling of his hand holding hers again.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”
Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”
Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.
