“Are you Ms. Kim Hee Joo’s guardian?”

Chae Won entered the emergency room and stared blankly at the woman lying pitifully on the bed.

The woman’s body, partially treated with emergency care, was wrapped in bandages, and her barely recognizable face was swollen and stained with dried blood.

“Weren’t you the one who called earlier? Ms. Kim Hee Joo’s younger sister?”

Two months ago, Kim Hee Joo had come to Chae Won’s dermatology clinic as a patient.

Only when she saw this woman—her own face staring back—did Chae Won realize this was her long-lost twin sister, separated since childhood.

From their hazy, distant memories, Hee Joo had gone with their father, while Chae Won had left for America with their mother, who later remarried James.

“No?”

Hee Joo, flustered as if she never wanted to see Chae Won again, had fled in panic—leaving behind her wallet like Cinderella’s lost slipper.

Using that as an excuse, Chae Won dialed the number on the patient chart once, and that was how they reunited two months ago.

Unlike their first awkward greeting, their second, third, fourth… meetings gradually eased the tension between them, leading to honest conversations.

They openly confessed they’d both longed to find each other but lacked the courage to make the first move, and they’d even planned for Hee Joo to properly introduce her kind and wonderful husband soon.

Yet suddenly, a call came—Hee Joo’s voice, sobbing violently.

“Wahhh… I feel so stupid for having lived like this. I think I’m going insane.”

“Unnie, what’s wrong? Did something happen? No, where are you right now?”

“I left home. Chae Won, I really… I hate myself so much.”

After barely calming her down, Chae Won suggested they meet.

“Should I come to the hospital, or should I come find you? Yeah, let’s just meet there,” they’d said—only for a sudden scream to cut through the line, ending their last conversation.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Chae Won refocused her gaze.

“Yes, I am. What happened?”

“She was hit by a car and sustained serious injuries.”

“I’m a doctor too. Could you please explain my sister’s condition in detail?”

“Oh, alright—I’ll show you the CT scan. Would you come this way?”

Fractured arms, wrists, and shoulders; a collapsed nasal bone; and various abrasions—her injuries were concentrated on her head and upper body.

“I want to die. I feel so foolish for having lived like this.”

She’d said she was happy, married to a caring lawyer with a warm-hearted mother-in-law.

She’d even enthusiastically booked Botox and skincare consultations because she wanted to look prettier—so why had she suddenly broken down, crying and saying she wanted to die?

Suspicious, Chae Won rummaged through her sister’s bag.

“…Divorce papers?”

From a folded brown envelope came the divorce documents—already dated far in the past, as if the process had started long ago.

Chae Won’s eyes drifted to the husband’s name listed just beside Hee Joo’s personal details.

No Jae Min. As she silently stared at that name, Hee Joo’s phone on the bedside table suddenly vibrated loudly.

[Mr. Jae Min]

She didn’t know why they’d decided to divorce, but for now, he was still her legal guardian.

Without hesitation, Chae Won answered the call.

“Hello?”

—Hey.

At that first word, Chae Won’s brow furrowed sharply.

Even if they were about to divorce, calling your wife “Hey” like that?

—Are you really doing this? We agreed to meet at the courthouse today—why’d you bail again? I told you to take your stuff and leave by today! Why’s everything still sitting there?!

Clearly, the divorce papers she’d just seen were the reason.

They’d planned to meet at court to finalize the divorce, but Hee Joo couldn’t go through with it—so she’d broken down and left home instead?

—Take your stuff and leave right now! If you don’t move out by today, I’ll throw everything away—got it?!

If she’d screamed that desperately yet still couldn’t go through with the divorce—did that mean she still loved this man?

Or had Hee Joo done something wrong, provoking such rage from him?

—Hey, Kim Hee Joo, are you even listening?!

Chae Won raised the divorce papers in her hand, holding them directly before her eyes.

“203 Tae Seong-ro 3-gil, Seoul. Is that your home?”

At Chae Won’s question, the man on the line let out a flustered breath.

—Ha! Seriously? Are you seriously pretending you don’t remember? Do you think I won’t go through with the divorce if you act like this?!

“So you’re there right now?”

—Of course I’m here—where else would I be?! And why are you suddenly being so stiffly polite? What the hell’s gotten into you?!

Expressionless, Chae Won lowered the documents.

“That’s not how you talk to your wife.”

“What?”

Was it because they were twins that their voices sounded so alike?

The man, still believing he was speaking to his wife, had no idea it was actually Chae Won on the line.

“Just wait right there.”

Chae Won ended the call and looked down at Hee Joo’s sleeping face after emergency surgery.

“Surely… you didn’t endure this from a guy like him?”

Her sister’s face, eyes closed without response, no longer resembled her own.

Swollen features, white bandages wrapped around her body, purplish bruises—especially her broken nose, now reconstructed but never quite the same again.

“And, speaking as a board-certified dermatologist, Unnie—you… your style’s just a bit dated, that’s all. You don’t even need Botox or anything.”

Just add a little shine to your damaged hair, apply a lively lipstick to your naturally fair skin, and ditch that frumpy look with just a bit of styling.

Then everyone—men and women alike—would only have eyes for you.

“Because I’m Kim Chae Won—the living proof.”

Since he threatened to throw everything away if she didn’t move out by today, she’d better go pack up her things.

“I’ll take care of your stuff. After all, you don’t have Dad anymore—and I’m all you’ve got.”

One day, out of necessity, she’d pulled up old documents—only to find her father marked as deceased, someone she hadn’t seen in years.

Then a month later, her mother’s name was also crossed out due to a sudden accident.

“But you… with the same face as me—you didn’t live like an idiot, did you?”

The man’s harsh voice moments ago kept echoing in her mind.

Considering Hee Joo’s gentle nature—so unlike her own despite their identical faces—she probably couldn’t have fought back the way Chae Won would have.

She needed to find out exactly who this guy was, what kind of life Hee Joo had lived with him—and see his face for herself.

Just what the hell had happened…?

“I’ll be back… and until then, Unnie, you absolutely have to wake up.”

Seeing someone with her own face lying like this was the worst possible thing.

Chae Won stood from the chair, slipped on her jacket, and picked up a gleaming clutch with her white hand.

*

She pressed the doorbell multiple times—but heard no answer.

“Is this not the right house?”

She stepped under the streetlamp to double-check the address, but it was definitely correct.

Staring at the two-story detached house, Chae Won tilted her head with a puzzled look.

“Doesn’t look like they’re struggling financially.”

When she’d first met Kim Hee Joo, her complete lack of pretense had made Chae Won assume she wasn’t well-off.

Perhaps Chae Won had unconsciously imagined a small, modest home—so seeing this two-story house in a clearly expensive neighborhood made Hee Joo’s plain, unadorned appearance at their age even more puzzling.

Grumbling in frustration, her phone rang.

[Blind Date – Choi Yu Gun]

Chae Won’s eyes widened as she glanced at the screen.

“Oh no—right! The blind date!”

Choi Yu Gun was the grandson of someone James did business with.

James, her stepfather, had casually mentioned arranging a meeting—insisting they at least meet once for appearances’ sake, even if they didn’t end up dating.

Panicked by the hospital call, she’d completely forgotten her date with him.

Surely he hadn’t been waiting all this time.

“I’m so sorry, Mr. Choi Yu Gun. Something urgent came up… Have you been waiting long?”

She immediately apologized as soon as she answered.

“Hey. Kim Hee Joo. What the hell are you?”

At the sharp voice, she turned her head—only to see a man in a T-shirt, holding a convenience store plastic bag, glaring at her with a slouching posture.

Recognizing instantly from his “Hey” that this was No Jae Min, Chae Won fixed her gaze on him and said,

“I’m sorry—I’ll call you back.”

She hung up and now stood face-to-face with Jae Min, who had approached without her noticing.

*

Black bodycon dress, beige jacket, stiletto heels—and a glittering clutch held by a hand adorned with sparkling rings.

Jae Min’s eyes slowly scanned Chae Won from head to toe.

“Hey, you…?”

He stared dumbfounded at her long, flowing brown hair, crimson lips, and elegant posture—then quickly scrunched his face in disgust.

“What the hell are you? Where’d you leave your glasses…? No, wait—where’d you even get these clothes? Did you do your hair too? And that designer bag…? Nah, no way—that’s gotta be fake. Where’d you even get that knockoff?”

A knockoff?

Chae Won nearly laughed.

She understood he mistook her for Hee Joo—thanks to them being twins—but the fact that he automatically assumed anything “designer” must be fake spoke volumes about how little respect Hee Joo had been shown in their marriage.

Since they were clearly ending things—and given this man’s complete lack of basic respect or manners—she’d need to think carefully before telling him about Hee Joo’s condition.

“Where’s her stuff? I came to pick up her things.”

Hearing her use formal speech—unusual compared to Hee Joo—Jae Min stared at her strangely, then snorted with a smirk.

“Ohhh, I get it. Ever since that call earlier, you’ve been acting all polite to show you’re finally done, huh? So you’ll show up at court tomorrow, right? Huh?”

Chae Won stared straight at Jae Min before her.

Tan skin, large alert eyes—a fairly decent-looking guy—but apparently quite stupid, given he’d been married to Hee Joo for who knows how many years.

Even with identical faces, how could he not realize the woman in front of him wasn’t his wife?

“Her things. Where are they?”

Jae Min blinked with a puzzled expression.

Sensing something deeply different about her, he frowned again and turned to lead the way.

“I get what you’re trying to pull. Just grab your stuff and go—stop dragging this out.”

Following Jae Min inside, a middle-aged woman stretched and walked out from the hallway.

“I should’ve reminded you to buy beer and squid too—completely forgot… Huh? Oh my god! Who the hell are you?!”

Chae Won silently watched the woman’s shocked expression as her mouth fell open.

After blinking twice, Young Ja scowled just like Jae Min had moments earlier and stomped over.

“You ran off and went completely crazy, didn’t you?! What even is this outfit? And where’d you get that bag?!”

Young Ja grabbed Chae Won’s clutch and jerked her head up sharply.

“Did you steal my card? Did you use Attorney No’s card to buy this? You’ve been living off allowance—where’d you get the money for this? And where did you throw your glasses?!”

So whenever Kim Hee Joo bought a designer bag, the whole household went nuts like this? Why were they making such a huge fuss over just one bag?

“How dare you stand here looking me straight in the eye! Tell me the truth right now—did you steal something to buy this, huh?!”

Ignoring her, Chae Won casually looked around the house as if sightseeing, then walked into the spacious living room.

“Hey! Are you even listening? Your mother-in-law’s asking you where you got it!”

“Mother-in-law? When you’re about to get divorced?”

Muttering carelessly, Chae Won watched as both Young Ja and Jae Min’s eyes widened in shock.

“What did you just say?!”

“I said—‘mother-in-law’? When you’re about to get divorced?”

“Oh my god! She’s lost it! Hey!!”

Chae Won sidestepped lightly, dodging Young Ja’s hand as she tried to shove her.

“Ohhh! Aigoo!”

With nothing to grab onto, Young Ja tumbled over by herself—and clutched her head, though she hadn’t even hit it.

“Aigoo, my head! Ohhh, what is happening?!”

“Mom, are you okay?”

“Son! Attorney No! She’s completely lost it! On her last day, she’s staring her own mother-in-law straight in the eyes and talking back like this!”

After helping Young Ja up, Jae Min stormed over toward Chae Won, his face flushed with anger.

“Are you insane?! Did you hit your head or something after running off?! Just sign the damn divorce papers already—stop dragging this out! I want this over with!”

Chae Won sat down on the wide fabric sofa, crossing her legs.

“Hmm… should I sign? Or shouldn’t I?”

“Hey!”

Chae Won smirked faintly, her eyes sweeping once more over this house radiating utter dysfunction.

This was Hee Joo’s responsibility—but clearly, she’d lived even more foolishly than Chae Won had imagined.

With that same face, enduring this kind of treatment—she felt like suing for defamation on her sister’s behalf.

Until her sister woke up, she’d restore Hee Joo’s ruined image—however slightly.

If you’re so upset, Hee Joo, then wake up already.

“…What did you just say?!”

Jae Min frowned as he watched Chae Won smiling gently.

“You seem unable to tell real from fake.”

Chae Won gave her designer clutch a slight shake, then said,

“Nice to meet you, honey.”

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

27/12/2025
Side Story 5 Side Story 4

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
