“Jaemin! Wake up! Look at Heeju with that man, hugging each other! You’ve been played too!”

Despite shaking and hitting his back several times, Jaemin didn’t wake up and collapsed onto the floor.

“Ah!”

As Jaemin lay sprawled, the attention of the café turned to them.

“Really!”

Lona looked at the lifeless Jaemin with fury in her eyes.

“I have a lot to say, so wake up, No Jaemin!”

Her shouts were drowned out by the heavy rain.

The rain continued to pour heavily.

Passing brightly lit office buildings and shop lights, Yu Gun tilted the umbrella more towards Chaewon.

“Isn’t what you did today dangerous?”

“It doesn’t matter. No Jaemin won’t remember, and Gorona will only suspect me more. It’s all I wanted.”

Chaewon straightened the umbrella.

“What will you gain by fueling suspicion?”

“That is…”

As Chaewon hesitated, Yu Gun tilted the umbrella back towards her.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Why?”

Chaewon looked slyly at Yu Gun.

“I don’t know if you’ve become friends with Hotae in the meantime.”

Yu Gun’s expressionless face twitched at her remark.
Chaewon chuckled at his reaction.

“Looks like you’re still not on good terms.”

“Let’s not bring up his name anymore. There’s no chance of things improving.”

Chaewon asked with a cautious expression, “But I’m really curious, why the bad relationship?”

Yu Gun walked thoughtfully, his gaze fixed ahead. “The day I lost my family and felt utterly hopeless, that guy and my uncle were laughing.”

Surprised by the unexpected response, Chaewon’s eyebrows shot up. “Laughing? Why…”

“I don’t know if they were happy about taking over the company, had other reasons to be happy, or if I misunderstood, but since that moment, I’ve been turned off by them.”

Still, how could they laugh when my brother died? Whether it was a misunderstanding or not, I didn’t want to understand.

After barely finishing the funeral and returning, instead of consoling my young nephew, they warned me with sharp expressions not to covet the company. That moment confirmed their reasons for laughing.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but in your place, I would’ve aimed to take back my father’s company. It’s so infuriating.”

Chaewon spoke with a suddenly cold expression, as if angered on his behalf.

“I have no intention of taking it back. Destroying it, maybe.”

His calm yet threatening tone made Chaewon feel a chill.

“Don’t worry. The more I grow, the more options I have, whether to take it back or destroy it.”

Chaewon closed her lips quietly, looking at his profile.

“Wasting my life on such fools isn’t what my parents in heaven would want.”

As Chaewon pondered what her parents might say about her time impersonating Heeju, and what Heeju might think…

“My parents would say I did well.”

Yu Gun laughed softly at her confident expression.

“You’re very clear about your principles.”

Chaewon also smiled.

“Where did you park the car?”

“It’ll be here soon.”

“What will?”

Confused, Chaewon saw a young man with a transparent umbrella running towards them.

“Did you call a substitute driver?”

“Yes.”

Yu Gun handed over the car keys, and Chaewon turned with a puzzled look.

“Why… Did you drink?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

“Just, it’s bothersome.”

Chaewon spoke with a slightly apologetic tone.

“Ah… I must have called you out for no reason.”

“It was a good call. I wanted some fresh air, just didn’t want to drive.”

As the car pulled up, Chaewon gathered herself and got in.

Yu Gun joined her.

“If you’re sleepy, sleep.”

“No, I’m not sleepy at all. It’s not like I called you out because I was tired.”

The rain continued to lash against the window.

Chaewon, who claimed to suffer from insomnia, fell silent and soon dozed off, her head resting against the window.

Yu Gun watched her quietly, then turned his head to look out, his gaze lost in the passing night lights.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
